“I’ve never, ever felt anything romantic towards Mobei-Jun,” he lied. Mobei-Jun gave him a look over Liu Qingge’s shoulder that very clearly said ‘we both know that’s bullshit’. His king was so expressive when he was being mean to Shang Qinghua.

If he hadn’t listened to all of Shen Yuan’s rants about <<Proud Immortal Demon Way’s>> he probably would have gone out of his way to avoid changing things, and avoided as many life-threatening situations as possible. But he had dutifully listened to all of a-Yuan’s criticisms, like a good boyfriend, and so he knew exactly what his boyfriend would have wanted from this novel.
Shang Lei had always been weak to Shen Yuan’s desires.
So when confronted with the terrifying concept of a shared mission with his fellow head disciple Liu Qingge, instead of desperately ducking out in order to avoid both Liu Qingge and the danger the mission would pose to his person, the newly-named Shang Qinghua remembered Shen Yuan’s fondness for Liu Qingge and agreed to the mission without complaint.
Mu Qing felt his stomach drop out. He knew Feng Xin didn’t want him as a soulmate, but to actually know that Feng Xin hated him so much that he’d never mentioned them being soulmates for eight hundred years felt like a punch in the face.
“Why?” Mu Qing choked out, only to get a confused look from Feng Xin. “Why did you never mention it?”
The confusion on Feng Xin’s face cleared. “Why didn’t you?” Feng Xin asked, “I thought that you didn’t want to talk about it. You found out we were soulmates and you left the very next day. I know there were other things going on, but it didn’t seem like a great sign.”
Mu Qing winced, looking away. He supposed, working from what Feng Xin had seen, he would have also assumed that he didn’t want to talk about it. All this time he’d been worried about Feng Xin rejecting him while Feng Xin thought Mu Qing had rejected him eight centuries ago. Mu Qing didn’t know if he wanted to laugh or cry.
But Luo Binghe is something he can deal with. Probably.
The young protagonist is staring at him in horror and looks about ready to cry.
“You’ve dug a good hole,” Shang Qinghua manages to say, before Luo Binghe goes back to apologising for what sounded like existing? “Very impressive technique.”
Shang Qinghua will admit he knows nothing about digging holes, but the kid looked miserable, so. Praise would make him feel better, right? Right. It worked with his little disciples at any rate.
“It’s nice, being held,” Shang Qinghua said quietly, not entirely sure if his bed partner was still awake.
A moment passed. “Is it?” Liu Qingge asked.
“Have you never been held?” Shang Qinghua asked, turning over to face Liu Qingge.
Liu Qingge shook his head slowly. “I assume my parents don’t count.”
“Not really. But being held by someone you love, it’s wonderful,” Shang Qinghua said, looking into Liu Qingge’s eyes.
“And do you get held by a loved one often?”
“No, it’s been a long time.” A whole life ago, actually.

“What is Luo Binghe doing?” Shang Qinghua groaned into his desk.
“Courting you,” Mobei-jun’s voice replied.
“I know that,” Shang Qinghua said while lifting his head. He ignored Mobei-jun’s accusing eyebrow, because so what if he’d never noticed when other demons were courting him, he was a busy guy. “What I don’t know is why.”
The first letter comes three weeks into his seclusion. Lan Wangji is still angry, still mourning. He does not want to open the letter, but he knows that ignoring a letter from a Sect Leader will not be taken kindly. Even so, he leaves the letter on the table for a few days. Even if Jiang Wanyin doesn’t know Lan Wangji is spiting him, it makes him feel better.
Later, when Lan Wangji opens the letter he wishes he hadn’t let spite take hold of him.
Jiang Cheng had answered the call for help from a village in Yunmeng himself because he desperately needed to get out. He loved his people and his home, but he needed to be active instead of sitting around all day working on paperwork and training the disciples.
He had thought that maybe by going on a short, easy nighthunt he would be able to relax a bit, work off some of the restlessness that had been growing inside of him before his nephew's next visit. He had not expected the nighthunt to cause him even more stress in the form of a half-dead, emerged-from-seclusion-a-week-ago Lan Wangji bleeding out on the forest floor.
Lan’s truly had to be the most dramatic group of people at all times, it appeared. Jiang Cheng could swear he had heard Lan Wangji murmur ‘I will be with you soon, my love’ as he shut his eyes. Quite frankly Jiang Cheng did not want to be dealing with this right now.
But he couldn’t very well let the heir of the Gusu Lan Sect die right in front of him and do nothing. The political ramifications of that would be a nightmare and Jiang Cheng did not think the Jiang Sect was yet strong enough to deal with that. And the amount of paperwork he’d have to do.
