#Nixon50 #OTD 3/12/1970 President Nixon received the Project HOPE award in memory of President Dwight D. Eisenhower from the founder of Project HOPE, Dr. William B. Walsh. In 1958, President Eisenhower ensured Dr. Walsh could lease a retired Navy medical ship for $1 per year. The ship was refitted and christened the SS HOPE.
