A Treatise on Possibility came through!
I absolutely loved Dear Future Historians, and from what little of Rou's new book I've read, it's just as well researched and written.

āI wish I was a comet Burning up into the night I wish I was a comet But I'm just a satellite I don't like the limelight So we don't hold hands in daylight I still drag the closet All my limbs, they ache inside And surely all my family and my friends My god and my ends They cannot all be wrong So I play along: We refrain from touch We are satellites In a cosmic dance Amongst the northern lights And we orbit fast But I wish we could collide I'm sick of concealing I'm sick of the feeling I no longer want to hide Cos I think it could be love But I can't show you enough I wanna burn through the atmosphere Soar like a meteor tonight All the gravity between us Someone bring me down to land And write a prayer to Venus What is life without affection Now online they discuss Whether I exist And in the court they decide Who I can kissā

No lyrics here, just a gorgeous, scary symphonic piece. Sounds like something from Kingdom Hearts

āWe're Apocaholics Anonymous Our fear is bottomless Now God's forgotten usā
āHow can you never be nervous? How can you never consider the risk Consider a hideous end? On every face a filter Masking weakness, masking woe You're the picture of composure You're tossing a coin, getting heads twice And then expecting it thrice We're Apocaholics Anonymous Our fear is bottomless Now God's forgotten usā

āBut we canāt turn back itās a labyrinth, now the die is cast my friend. Christ, what a mess, I think Beckett said it best; Try again, fail again, fail betterā
The only good thing to come out of 2020 is Nothing is True & Everything is Possible.
āNothing is True & Everything is Possibleā thoughts
Nothing is True and Everything is PossibleĀ by Enter Shikari is a pretty damn fantastic album, though itās a grower for sure. That reviewer that said it had noĀ āredeeming qualitiesā mustāve only listened to it once. Was prolly shit-brained, too.
Someone on Reddit said it really well; "Overall the album has a really dark undertone. It's Existential dread coated by a thin layer of pop and electronics with a nice dash of classical instruments."
I do feel like some songs should be placed in a different order. Elegy for Extinction should really be the closer, but it's right in the middle, before and after some hard-hitters. Satellites* * is very pop-heavy and could absolutely imagine it being played on mainstream radio. It's good but fairly safe for them.
I love the lines "How can you never be nervous?", and "I throw myself into the day but I just seem to ricochet". There are some great lyrics, even though some people are complaining about them. I also love lyrics likeĀ āOh, the beauty of the twilight glows, oh, the delusion of Vincent van Gogh. A red sky at night, a shepherd's flashlight; his beam sweeps like brush strokes across the skyā
Waltzing Off The Face Of The Earth is a grim but catchy track with harrowing lyrics: āThereās been a shooting in a Walmart, so put guns on every shopping cart. Thereās dead kids on the beach, bigoted parents now decide what teachers teach. Our futureās been denied and thereās nowhere to hide now that nothing is true and everything is possibleā
Modern Living reminds me a LOT of Blur. The Pressureās On is a highlight, too. Thereās a very heavy synth/electro influence throughout the whole album. None of the songs could really be considered Rock, necessarily. So itās a departure, but still quintessential Shikari.
This album is also not as aggressive or blunt with its lyrics, outside of Waltzing. Subtlety does work, but I also miss the days of Fanfare for the Concious Man, Stalemate, Anaesthetist, and Arguing with Thermometers.
This is far from a review, but my scattered thoughts on the latest album from my favourite band.
