I'm in a class for the game engine Unity. The goal of my game is to ask the player a riddle. Simple, right? I have a limited background in Python, but Unity requires Javascript--a Unity/Javascript mutant child in actuality but they call it Javascript in the program. Luckily, I sit next to this awesome gentleman who is both an artist and programmer. He helps me out basically every second of class, and he's awesome for that. My game is set in an alternate universe where we find out the inspiration behind the epic poem "Beowulf." It revolves around this riddle:
A strange item hangs by the thigh of a
man, under it's master's garment. It is
pierced in the front; it is stuff and hard
and it has a good fixed place. When the
man pulls his own robe up over his knee,
he intends to poke with the head of this
hanging thing that familiar hole of equal
length which it has often filled before.
Yes, at the center of my game is a penis joke, but no, the answer to the riddle is not actually penis. To anticipate the player's answers, I needed to write in the code all the possible terms for male genitalia, including "shaft" and "dick" and "penis." I wanted to write all of this on one line of code using the "or" ( | | in Unity) conjunction, but I didn't know how to do this, so I had to ask my kind friend, which then prompted the following dialogue:
"Oh, you have to use the double slash, no the straight one...Uh..whaaat" He stammered.
"I CAN EXPLAIN!"
And then I died of embarrassment.
