Do you have any pet peeves regarding the ( League ) community's view of Jhin ? I, for example, hate when people insist on Ahri being a ' slut ' & say she has intercourse with people to take their souls, & such.
Ever since I started posting Falling Down to AO3 (just updated with my third chapter tonight!), Iāve been more and more curious as to what AO3ā²s various fics with Jhin as a character in them look like.
To wit I have yet to be disappointedā¦ if I were looking for meme fuel.
Given thereās been a lack of Jhin blogs besides me recently, I canāt say the phenomenon is limited to AO3, although Iāve had better luck finding good Jhins on Tumblr (when they were still around) than AO3. Primarily what I donāt like is the dumbing down of his character in an effort to spin him as sympathetic or saying things like āheāsĀ unable to control himself :( really he wants to be nice :(:(ā and any variant that inevitably also exist. Thatās a trope universal to any villain, but with Jhin Iāve seen that shit taken up to 11.
Iāve been writing this character since his release. Not once have I considered the idea that he is in any way somehow a murderousĀ āwoobieā type character, even with the advent of Riotās long form lore. Riot may not be hitting the mark they could be with Jhin, but I doubt even they are foolish enough to take him down that path.
So why is it that every time I turn around there is someone trying to say that (their) Jhin is sympathetic? Cute, even? Forget not jiving with me, it doesnāt even fucking compute. This dude earned the title ofĀ āGolden Demonā for a reason. Itās not because he was particularly nice to the people he brutally murdered.
But then I suppose the appeal of Jhin is for theĀ āaestheticā types that like waxing off to that sort of stuff but not to the harrowing murder and gore, so they have to distill it down as some sort of twisted avoidance of the biggest point of the character.
