The Mistwood was... Not as friendly as the Tangle. Not as friendly to her at least. It was filled with all manner of strange and downright dangerous beasts, normally the kind of place she’d avoid at all costs. But it was a forest, and that was incredibly important. Almost as equally important was the fact that it was not the city.

And tucked away in that forest was a modest house that was so incredibly cottage core that it might have been the physical embodiment of countless photosets. The number of flowers both outside and on the house belied how new it was, many bright colours, herbs as well as fruits and vegetables growing in the garden. There was even a small bush trimmed to look like a cake missing a slice. 

There was also a great many plants inside the house, and no trace of iron or steel. It wasn’t the most spacious of houses, but it felt both alive and cosy. The witch herself stood with a mixture of pride and awkwardness on her features. 

“So... What do you think..? This is.... Basically exactly the same as my house at home. I prefer to be self sufficient...”

This was a big place, and he was never... good at reading maps, so the phone wasn’t helping him much. It was getting late, too, and that might be dangerous if he’s not careful. If only there was- ah! There, someone almost swallowed up by the darkness of the night. Thank goodness his eyes still worked. Glasses would make him look like a dweebus.

Tall, though. Maybe if... oh! walking right by a little stone fence, perfect. Let them just...

Catching up to this figure, Felice threw an arm around their shoulders, partially for balance as he walked on the stone fence, partially for trying to exude that charm he hoped he had. “Hey there, my friendly. See, I’m new in town, and I’m a little lost. You mind telling me where we are?”

She was calm. It didn’t take long for her to settle into a routine—or a lack of one, rather. She had no religious duties to attend to, no one bothering her for blessings or ceremonies they needed completing... here, she was a nobody. And she was happy with that. For what felt like ages now all she’s wanted is to be able to relax, take a nice long nap whenever she wanted...

But... maybe in line to pay isn’t the best place for it. It wasn’t moving and she wasn’t next, so there were no consequences to her completely zoning out with her eyes closed (not quite asleep but not far from it) yet, but there would be soon.

She... Didn’t really know how she was supposed to be acting. There must be a right way and she was just missing it, right..? She was definitely happy to be here, with her specifically, but... Well thankfully here was a distraction.

“...So, this one is a blue clerodendrum, or, a glorybower. The extracts have a number of uses for food and medicine and it pollinates in an interesting way... It looks like a butterfly, doesn’t it? But it’s actually a flower... Well, in this case it’s a kite that looks like a flower that looks like a butterfly.”

Savior’s Respite. It was a calm place and if you were lucky somewhere you could go in the city for a bit of peace. Today it seemed they had been lucky, and the weather wasn’t even that bad, all things considered. 

This was the first time she’d be meeting Tamae after gaining some ability to read the emotional states of others and she’d told her fairly soon after it had returned. She’d wanted to be read after all, and the Hatterene would rather everyone who she spends time with know as soon as possible regardless. So, a picnic had been prepared. Plenty of cheeses, breads and mushroom dishes. 

“Sorry if you don’t like... Any of this food, I suppose I was kind of selfish when I was buying it...”

Tonight they were hanging out at Tamae’s place, Gwinifer had brought over a collection of herbs and mushrooms from the forest as well as a multitude of other ingredients and she was incredibly forward to making something for the both of them to eat. The fox had told her where to find some seasonings and gone back to her room for something, except... She was having trouble finding them.

“Tamae..? Are you sure they’re there because I couldn’t... See...”

Why? Why had she just walked in? Why hadn’t she waited for an answer? Why hadn’t she knocked? Why was Tamae getting changed right now. These questions left her mind in favour of the void. There she stood, undressed, fresh garments in her hands. Looking right back at her. 

Her heart was pounding. Why couldn’t she say anything, why couldn’t she move? Why did she feel all tight and heavy inside? Is this what dying felt like? It was amazing how heavy two people could blush in a matter of moments. 

After the frozen eternity Gwinifer shot out of the room. 

She didn’t say anything, she didn’t think; she just ran. Out of the apartment actually, not grabbing a single thing she’d brought with her, not even her phone. 

It was fine. She could change her name. She could move into a different apartment. She’d make new friends, or maybe just run all the way to the Mistwood. It was not fine. Her heart was going to explode. She felt like she was going to melt.
