The shower hadn’t done much to ease tense nerves, little gained from it except steam coating the mirror in front of her that she wipes away. It’s frustrating, to say the least. If she’d known there were mostly just uncertainties waiting for them on this side of the country, Ryan hadn’t expected some indefinite stay in a city she’d never felt a desire to call home. That was a term reserved for a person, a single person that right now she’s half-wishing she could cut out, cut her losses, and go back to the east coast where she belongs. As if on cue, she becomes aware of movement somewhere on the other side of the door, the man she pointedly left uninvited. “Hope you wanted a cold shower.”
