“Nice” Rock - March 2022 There is a lot of Gneiss Rock (pronounced Nice) in Sabino canyon. Gneiss Rock is formed when a volcano flows out alternate layers of gray and white granite. Normally that would form just alternate thick layers of gray and white, but at Sabino, the geological forces compressed that granite and slowly stretched it out like taffy until it was formed into Gneiss Rock.
