Okay, after reading just about all of your fantastic stories I just have to know how you're so good at adding the minor little details that really make the story. I mean, for example, the mania in Quentin's eyes that had me as a reader feeling uncomfortable as if I was actually under his gaze, plus him licking his lips, etc.. It's just so subtle but goes a long way and as a writer, I've never been able to focus on that important aspect of a story. Any tips? 😊
Oh my god!! This is genuinely one of the sweetest asks I’ve ever received!! This has totally made my day!! That’s all I want as a writer to make my readers feel uncomfortable what the character is feeling so you saying I achieved that? Genuinely makes me so happy :]
In the subtle details I’m not sure I’m the right person to come too but I’ll give it a shot! If you’ve read any of my other fanfics you’ll notice there are a few phrases I use over and over (the licking of the lips is one of them!!). I generally write villains who have are narcissists (Negan, Quentin, Killmonger etc) so I try and accentuate those traits that are already in the movie but make them darker? I imagine Beck, for example, to be extremely self centered when it comes to women (I mean, look at him, he’s never had trouble with em we KNOW that) and that narcissism would move into a misogyny toward women. So the way he watched the reader with his gaze “x-raying” them is trying to drive home the fact that this is an unstable genius who, presumably, has never had to work for anything in his life.
So basically, try and break down your character to their core emotions and personality traits (if you play Sims it can help to break them into those specific in-game traits) And then try and take some quirks for the character that you can fall back on (clenching fists, constant blinking (like Gyllenhaals character in Prisoners) etc!).
I hope this helped somehow?? idk if it did??? but I hope so???
Thank you for the ask and have a great day!
