Cornell Statler Connection
Not long ago the fate of the legendary Statler Hotel was uncertain until Mark Croce stepped in and saved it from demolition. One of the most central buildings in Buffalo's most central square, the Statler was built in 1923 as a national standard for hotels raising the bar on elegant lodging. The creator was Ellesworth M. Statler and he had revolutionized the hotel industry with the Statler as the pearl.
Ellesworth also left Cornell University millions of dollars making him the largest ever benefactor for the mecca of education. This weekend students from the Finger Lakes most prestigious collegiate center came to Buffalo to see the legacy of their donor. Croce encourages Cornell to commit resources to the rebirth of the Statler stating, "What better school to have some type of adjunct relationship with than Cornell, where the roots of the program started with Statler?"
