The โdeerโ is the larger galaxy, NGC 7331, while the โfleasโ are a collection of unrelated background galaxies: NGC 7335, 7336, 7337, and 7340.
Located within NGC 7331 near the center is a new supernova, SN 2025rbs, discovered on July 14, 2025 by the Gravitational-wave Optical Transient Observer (GOTO).

The large galaxy, NGC 7331, is the "deer" and the smaller galaxies above it (NGC 7335, 7336, 7337, 7340) are the "fleas".
Reportedly, Tomm Lorenzin named this galaxy grouping "The Deer Lick Group" in honor of Deer Lick Gap in North Carolina where he observed this group of galaxies.
