Translator notes:
The Japanese that Raphael is using in the first panel is quite archaic in nature. The closest English analogue I could think of is Shakespearean English, so I did my best to render what he was saying in that dialect.
Conversely, the Japanese word that I translated into “some guy” is yatsu, which is a very informal, perhaps even derogatory way to refer to someone. The sense I got was that Gabriel is using it to imply that Birdman isn’t showing Raphael proper respect. “Some guy” was the best way I could think of to convey this tone.
The Japanese word that I translated into “my subject” is o-nushi, which is an archaic word used to address either one’s equal or one who is inferior in social standing. Basically, Birdman doesn’t exactly realize who he’s talking to here. It’s unclear exactly whether he’s addressing Raphael as a peer or as a proper subordinate, but given that he’s styled as a king, I figure that’s probably a safe bet for how to convey the sense of his demeanor.
