There was a hole in the fence that was just barely wide enough for one person to slip through without being electrocuted, and she used it more than she should to sneak out and spend her nights at the dropship. She didn’t like it here in Arkadia- there were too many adults around, there was too little to do, and her delinquents were spread so thin across camp. Some were in the guard, some were on supply runs, some were in the gardens or the stock rooms or with the builders… everyone was everywhere. And worst of all, Bellamy had been demoted to just another guard. He was no longer in charge, he was expected to simply follow orders, just like the orders that would have kept him from going into the mountain and kept him from being there to save her and the others.
She had so few people left in camp, and she was so uncomfortable sleeping in such close quarters to the adults that had sent them down and grounders like Octavia’s Lincoln littering the camp that she couldn’t stand sleeping there. Not that she really slept at all, but dozing came easier to her at the dropship. She snuck out, followed an unworn path she’d been following more and more frequently, and felt her lungs able to breathe a little easier as soon as the gates to the dropship camp came into view. She paused in the gateway, drinking in the once-familiar camp but movement caught her eye and she almost ran to hide, but the familiar figure made her pause. “Jas?” Her voice wavered, praying her mind wasn’t playing tricks on her. It seemed too long since she’d last seen him, right after the mountain, when she was still sticky with blood. She was cleaner this time, and ready to throw herself at him if she thought he’d let her.
