This was to be Alexandria’s third interview in two weeks. She had done poorly on one, and they’d given the job to someone more ‘suitable’. The other one went well, or so she thought. They’d promised her a phone call that she still hadn’t received. So now she was here, standing in front of one of the biggest buildings she had ever seen. It was intimidating to say the least. She had the thought of turning around and going home. It would save her the embarrassment of failure. But, as much as she hated to admit it, she needed a job. Her roommate had moved out long ago, and the three months rent money she had received was dwindling. Unless she wanted to be kicked out and homeless, she had no other choice. She took in a deep breath, and walked in.
It was quite a journey to the interview room. For one, it was on one of the highest floors, and Alex’s claustrophobia gave her no other option but to take the stairs. After walking for what seemed to be an eternity she finally made it, only to be greeted by a row of doors that all looked the same. She searched through her bag, in hopes that she had written the door number down somewhere. Thankfully, she had. Upon finding the door, she thought that was the end of her troubles. She thought wrong. Other hopefuls filled the waiting room, looking as nervous and anxious as she. No seats were available, so she leaned against the wall behind her and watched as people went in and out of the interview room.
Alex sprung off the wall at the sound of her name. At this point, she was more than ready to get the interview over with, and she made her way into the room. Her nervousness returned as she stood in front of the people who would be interviewing her. She only recognized one. He was the CEO of the company, and the one she needed to impress the most. She smiled, hoping she didn’t look as nervous as she felt. “Hi. I’m Alexandria Carter, and I’m here for the secretary position.”
