Ho Lee Shit look at this asshole. Remember when I said Cable lacked the recruiting skills of a high school basketball coach? Well here you go. Look at that insincere suit. This sorry bastard reminds me of John Kreese from Cobra Kai, with his boomer aesthetic, questionable war stories, and obsession with recruiting child soldiers. Hey hereās a question. How come out of all the franchises that we loved as kids . . . Star Wars, Star Trek, The Matrix, Dumb and Dumber, He-Man, Alien, The Terminator, X-Files, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Tron, Die Hard, Full House . . . itās the motherfucking Karate Kid that gets the perfect modern sequel? Like, these studios create these movies and TV shows, and they are amazing. They captivate us and inspire us, they teach us things about ourselves and about the world around us. And for years we crave more. Our imaginations run wild the possibilities of what happens next in these stories. And yet, like clockwork, almost all of these sequels fail. CATASTROPHICALLY. As if the movie studios fuck them up on purpose, or perhaps because actually creating engaging sequels to these stories isnāt reasonable because our memories are biased by nostalgia.Ā
But then here comes Cobra Kai. Hey, remember the Karate Kid? Remember how good that god damn movie was when you were eight years old? With the high school bullies and the sociopath villains, and the innocent kid with the good heart who was just trying to exist and his peaceful and wise Japanese teacher? Well how would you like to see a lot more of that? How would you like to see those characters become adults and struggle with the clashing grey areas of their opposing philosophies, while trying to apply their beliefs to their lives and use them to teach their children, while also struggling with the unresolved trauma of their own pasts? And how would you like to see these stories told effortlessly by the storytellers as if doing so was the simplest task in the world? Why?? How??? Why the Karate Kid!!?? Who made this show!!?? How do they understand what made the original so great and why is it so easy for them to create new stories 30 years later when every other franchise that tries to do this fails so miserably!! Where did they find this infinitely limitless source of character development from a movie thatās so old!! I donāt get it!!! How!! Why!! What happened to Ali!! Iām only on season 2!! Donāt give me any spoilers!!Ā
