Today, a new member of The Roots &Â âShrooms Gang arrived, but unlike other mandrake roots and mushroom folk that have come to live with me, this little guy was very elusive and shy. As soon as the box was opened, he ran out of the house, too overwhelmed and seeking solitude. I gave him some time and then went looking for him, finding him out in the garden, admiring the flowers and playing among the leaves.
But I was spotted fairly quickly and the poor little guy startled.
Off he ran again, and all my coaxing and reassurance didnât seem to bring him out of hiding. It wasnât until I found him admiring some hyacinths that I could finally get close...
âWhatâs wrong, little guy?â I asked him. âI... Iâm nervous. I don't make friends easily.â I crouched down and continued to reassure him.
âBut youâre so unique! Youâll be the only nirnroot mandrake of the bunch. Theyâre sure to love you. The Gang really celebrates uniqueness, you know.â Slowly, so as not to scare him again, I lifted him into my hands and gave him a little tickle. He giggled sweetly.
âThey do?â he asked. âAbsolutely,â I told him.
âWell... maybe it wonât be so bad then...â he said. âIt wonât be bad at all! Theyâll go nuts over you, and before long, youâll find yourself with a whole bunch of new friends, I promise.â
And so it was that little Neirin the nirnroot mandrake (thatâs what he told me his name was), joined the Gang. Now to introduce him to the other members in small groups to get him used to everybody. Not everyone feels confident about making new friends, and thatâs okay. We can all help Neirin to settle in by congratulating him on his arrival! =)
