Nevus sebaceous (NS) is a type of congenital scalp growth (it is noticed at birth). The newborn baby often has a hairless yellow colored area and the area remains devoid of hair for life. The area may be yellow, orange or pinkish color. The NS can change in appearance over time, especially at puberty. At puberty, it becomes much more bumpy and lumpy. A number of benign and malignant tumors may occur in the nevus sebaceous. The most common benign tumors are the trichiblastoma and syringocystadenoma papilliferum. In fact, about 10-30 % of nevus sebaceous develop these benign tumors. Rarely, malignant tumors like basal cell cancers can develop in the NS.
