Our senses are amazing.
They can amaze you, attack you or fill you with wonder at any given moment. They can make you laugh or cry, feel happy or sadā¦. or make you belt out in song while driving along 287 N toward Midlothian instantly transforming you to a point in time that made you giddy.
Oh wait a minute⦠THATāS MEEEEE!
I have had many moments Ā where my senses hit me right in the feels. Ā There are really too many to count in this one blog post, but trust me when I say, we could sit a spell and discuss at length over an adult beverage or 5.
I digress, Ā there I was this morning on my way to work ⦠driving along listening to the radio⦠when ā¦.
WHAM!
It happened.
BOSTON came on the radio, ā¦..with that song, THE ONE, that can get any fan up and singing at the the top of their lungsā¦.āMore than a feelingā..
https://youtu.be/SSR6ZzjDZ94
ā¦first comes the gentle strum of Tom Scholz on guitar, other instruments slowly joining inā¦my heartbeat quickens because I KNOW what comes nextā¦.. in comes Sib Hashian on the drumsā¦.. ā ⦠I SLIPPED AWAAAAAAYā ⦠⦠I am suddenly drumming on my steering wheel, head bobbing up and down keeping time to the beatā¦. singing at the top of my lungsā¦.ā ITāS MORE THAN A FEEEEELINGāā¦
ā¦..AND I COULD NOT GIVE ONE FRACK, that anybody sees me as I pull up to the stop lightā¦ā¦I simply flash them the āYEAH! Ā ROCK Nā ROLLā hand sign and keep on singingā¦..Fuck āem if they think that this girl is too old for Rock nā Rollā¦.I donāt give a damn. Ā Let them smile. Ā Let them be jealous in their stuffy suit.
Lost in that moment in time, I am taken back to when I saw them in concert at the tender age of 19 in Austin, Texasā¦ā¦an auditorium where the air was filled with smoke from herb, cigarettes and beer; legions of fans standing, some in the chairs ⦠pounding their fists in the air.. singing to the music with not a care in the world. Ā We were one. Ā It was the music. Ā For those hours we were family, whatever was going on in our lives in that moment in time was suspended. Ā Ā There was no color, no hate and music was our religion.
For that 3:30 in my Toyota Highlander, Ā I am suspended in time, remembering fondly the friends that I went with.
⦠and I am singingā¦..
ā¦. Ā I pull up into the parking lot of where I work, place my car in park and listen as the drums and electric guitar slowly fade away. Ā I turn my car off and sit there for a moment, basking in the memory with a smile on my face. Ā God I love that song.
As the day slowly invades my thoughts, I grab my purse, Ā my lunch and exit my car. Ā I start across the parking lot, and realize that I have a little bit of sass in my ass⦠that Ā I am walking with a little strut and humming to myself. Ā Age be damnedā¦.I may have arthritis in my back, a sciatic nerve in my hip and a bum right ear..but I donāt give a shit. Ā I am a 55 year old female that has a good life, a wonderful husband and the journey that brought me here has been a good rideā¦.hmmmmmā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦.
JOURNEY⦠now there are some songs!!!
ā¦ā¦ā¦
but that is another blogā¦.
