I was in great distress, tears streaming down my face, looking at the fragmented pieces of my life and career, not knowing how to put them back together again. I had always dreamed about owning my own Skateboard company and doing so out of my Garage. Still, when it came to business, I had always been subservient to the Skateboard industry, and I was scared that I wouldn’t know how to run a business. But I was at the end of the line, emotionally, spiritually, I couldn’t go one more day faking it in their world, and I didn’t know where to turn. That’s when my daughter @emilyvallely stepped up and told me that she would help me, that I wasn’t alone in this anymore, and my wife @annvallely, and my daughter @lucy_vallely, said they would be there too, that we would do this as a Family, that I could be Whole again. With this simple act of Love, Street Plant was Born. I quit my job; I dropped my sponsors and went into my Garage and got to work — one foot in front of the other, one day at a time. What I didn’t know, I learned. I felt like I was fourteen again and had just started Skating. It wasn’t hard; it was just my path. It was challenging in a Fun way, and it required discipline, not as a demand but as a pleasure. At 45 years of age, I had started the second chapter of my life, and I put into it the same Vital Energy I had once put into my Skating. I knew how to go all-in on something, and I knew what was required of me to make this real: Everything. These past 5 years have been the most meaningful and rewarding of my life. The Friends I’ve made, the Artists and Skaters I’ve had the Honor of working with, and the Community that has grown around what we are doing fills my Heart daily with Joy!
