I have to make a small freeform review or rant on archaon the neverchosen. Not only he is an edgelord but he is miserable least liked by me villain that I can't respect. I even tried to read the stupid book Everchosen, and got bored to death, I shouldn't have expected british corporate soulless company to write lore that is more serious and logical than a teen-written fanfic on AO3 but despite that it's somehow worse than this. There are so many problems with you that I can't ever keep them all in one dialogue box but I just decided that my life is boring enough and miserable to go on another unhinged rant that I really shouldn't have done, instead of trying to fix my life and improve my last days, however, I spend it specifically digesting how unhinged WOC faction really is in total war warhammer 3.
Even after 3 games, it's unbelievable shit. And even then there is no reason to play them when you have Beastmen and Khorne. In fact, both of those basically "share" the mechanics that would make warriors of chaos campaign actually interesting but they were stolen so to speak to better races frankly with far less emtpy edge and more of actual doin' when it comes to destruction and violence. If you actually want to destroy the world I recommend a Beastmen campaign as Taurox, as the slow build up of destroyng Naggarond, Ulthuan and then the Empire feels satisfying. Unfortunately, I got dwarfpocalypse event in that campaign and it was nightmare. Dealing with dwarfs means constant never-ending manual battle and ironically it's the same reason why I ended the campaign with Archaon but I will tell you it's not the sole reason alone as it is absolutely miserable, too edgy and boring out of all factions in the game. There now goes complicated difference in terminology, but "Races" in warhammer used to mean the unit roster that was different from everyone else, nowadays people say "faction" even though the actual faction is "warhost of apocalypse" and the race is "warriors of chaos" (WOC), which is the problem on itself. Archaon is simply the better pick, mostly because other lords are hardlocked from most gifts of chaos slots, (which already makes them even more useless) and because he gets +25 souls per vassal which makes him actually genuinely playable if you get enough vassals in the game. From my exxperience with Archaon the souls and gold are not real issues, it is the frustrating problem that you cannot litereally use either AT ALL and that you get only 1 bloodthirster per 4 turns to replenish in your gift pool but hey it's not as bad as having only flamers of tzeentch replenished once for 4 turns which is even more laughable but whatever.
The biggest issue is that for a big economy and having like Rank 4 or something, it makes it literally impossible to recruit those daemons for all your armies. You end up with few (like 2) armies that have the daemons, often relying also on regiments of renown and most armies relying on marauders and chaos trolls. It is miserable becasue you can't decied what to recruit, you have to build specific buildings in your dark fortress and wait for 10%~ per turn for the warband recruitement in the local region to replenish. If you decide to recruit outside dark fortresses, you will most of the time only have marauders and sometimes, if you're lucky 1 dragon ogre. However, dragon ogres are fragile as shit and get easily kited. Though of course you also can recruit chaos giants, which are just giant targets. None of it matters when you can recruit the newer stronger giants from norscan allied pool but you have to wait 2 or 4 turns for that and it caps at 4 per army... This is pathetic. I will now proceed to reveal the truth. I actually played the campaign with mods because without mods it would've been even more boring. The mods I added were mostly the ones that let you pick lords from monogod factions like herald of khorne or herald of tzeentch, and same goes for some heroes but even then it did not include any heroes outside of things like bloodletters and so forth. It was more of a mini-mod to make the lords more unique and interesting, however I realized that original WOC faction literally only has exalted heroes and sorcerers for hero to recruit, and ironically one of the best strategies in the game to win battles is to just spam those exalted hero buildings, and then recruit 30 of them for your armies. You get +1 for every dark fortress and they are built in 2 turns, money isn't the problem so... the best way is to literally spam them though i have only done it at the end because of how miserable playing archaon is. And I can say my economy slightly did hit but it is better far better than having armies of good-for-nothing worthless marauders that will do nothing but die before they can be upgraded! I am glad I got Vilitch and Valkia, but I quite literally lost every other lord. I only had Sigvald stuck in Cathay with stupid chaos dwarfs who killed Sayl! And I can definitely say even with the Bloodthirsters, Naka is a powerhouse, though to be honest It's hard to beat endless stacks of cathay and survive and that is how chaos feels. You have few "good armies" compositions and then absolute shit tier marauder spams. And the good armies are only good probably because of Archaon and Legendary Lords, anyways, I also found allied outposts pain in the ass.
Most allied outposts were not that useful to me, as I tried to get streltsi, I tried to use the shades and even slaughterbrutes, but my biggest bullshit period of the campaign was trying to vassalize Arbaal. Firstly, when vassal owns your dark fortress they will never ever goddamn give back the fortress for anything. So you have to declare war invade them take fortress and revassalize. Since dark fortress is sole reason of making income as Chaos, you really need them and their 1000 gold building bank. The problem is Arbaal only agreed to be my vassal if I gave him dark fortress. The irony is if I owned kislev and gave it to my vassal, they still would never give me Praag because desptie kislev being strong, "in my hands" it is just bad investment as i only have level 1 outpost there for eternity. Even though it potentially would have been big deal. Well, technically, Praag is already a big deal in this game as a city well anyways... Arbaal is truly miserable experience. Even when I killed him with Vilitch, he still won the battle! I am not sure what his stats or skill tree are despite playing him before, but he is the real Everchosen if there was one.
And the irony is Khorne is everything that you want from WOCC anyway, he spawns blood host armies when "razing the cities", basically summoning a portal of chaos that leaks daemon magic like intended by the lore, accompanying with a demon horde to help you, and worst of all, you ccan actually reccruit up to 22 bloodthirsters with 1 settlement only by 4 turns, compared to measly 1. I am not joking, I did the math there and it would literally be possible as long as you have enough bloodletting to decrease global recruitement time, and for Arbaal that unit recruitement isn't hard to do. Nor for Skarbrand. Nor for Skulltaker... Neither of whom are weak at all. The saving grace of Archaon as lord is his fire magic but technically everybody has lore of fire anyways. And also, you can't even have those minotaurs in vanilla game that both beastmen and khorne have. That is sad as they are one of the best melee monsters and are just very fun to play, however I think I am ending it on here. The sad part is mostly that people do want to have Vilitch as tzeentch and they do want to have Valkia as Khorne or Festus as Nurlge, but they literally cannot. which means those lords might as well "not really" exist. Nobody wants to play you, Archaon and you are just an emo with rebellion phases goodbye
