Sagmeister & Walsh’s website features a live feed of the studio on the front page. Large cut-outs on the floor serve as their navigational buttons; I like that they created tangible buttons. It’s interesting because there are times when the live feed shows people stepping over the navigational buttons, rather than having digital buttons that appear over the photographs. The live feed is shown in black and white, likely so that the buttons stand out and don’t look cluttered.

The Estate Trentham is another website that has more unconventional buttons. The navigational buttons are hand-lettered and placed near leaves. I really like that the leaves are half real-leaves and half-drawn - it makes it look a lot more interesting than having normal leaves. The leaves (and materials at the bottom) make the website’s aesthetic look very soft and tranquil.
Pollen London has a responsive page that’s very clean and minimalistic. I like that the page isn’t cluttered with illustrations or photographs - it makes the entire page look a lot more aesthetically-pleasing. Additionally, the website uses very minimal color (the front page is entirely black/white except for the banner at the very top). I think it helps create sophistication throughout the website.

This page is literally just examples of nice pairings of typefaces; nonetheless, I think it’s really well-designed. The typefaces used pair well together, and I like that the creator also incorporated color to make it more engaging. It’s a very simple concept without any design elements, but still appears to look polished and sophisticated.

The website design works very well for the artist because his work incorporates motion and very vibrant colors. It’s a very simple layout, but I like that he chose to keep his design minimalistic to make his work stand-out. I think many websites have a tendency to add too much so it looks cluttered, but I think the artist succeeds in making his website engaging, but clean.
