A peculularity of fantasy RPGs, and of thus of fantasy stories in general, is that magic just keeps getting more powerful. Fighty characters are limited to doing things that are physically possible using bodies and weapons. For peope with magic, the sky is the limit!
This sometimes results in the Wizard dying in the first room (looking at you BG3!) but being the most powerful or useful character during the final act.
It had me thinking about how Netis was struggling to make bugs move when we first met her:
But now she is glowing and smiting bad guys:
