#nether!lying

There’s a few other limits that are occasionally thrown in, but more often than not the reason that Doctor Who stories aren’t resolved simply be one or more of the TARDIS’ nigh-godlike abilities is simply that the Doctor doesn’t know which one to use and how. If he doesn’t know what’s going on, he can’t know what to do to undo it.

How does this apply to nether!Lying?

Since before the end of Nether Expedition, nether!Lying has had one primary objective: Find Martyn and Walter, his closest and most reliable friends in the otherwise very literal hell he inhabited. He’s chased _Timothy since Gorzul Keep, and he keeps looking throughout the multiverse for footprints, clues, and traces of his friends.

With the TARDIS, he could go back to when they went missing and convince them not to go. Or he could see where they went and meet up with them either there or wherever they ended up afterwards. He could practically stalk _Timothy in the past to find out exactly what happened. So why doesn’t he?

Once again, very simply, he doesn’t know how. It’s entirely possible that nether!Lying doesn’t even know that the TARDIS actually is a time machine, because we only see him using it almost exclusively for travel. If he knew that and how to do it, all of these things immediately become possible, more or less (there’d be some working out of where and when), and nether!Lying lives happily ever after, much to the dismay of the Lyingverse.

Assuming that nether!Lying is actually unaware that he’s driving a time machine around, things can continue on their very typical “hero’s journey” archetype for him. If he ever did though, there’s a powderkeg of emotion to be had there, and I imagine the TARDIS and Sister Lina would catch the brunt of it.
