Ness does an edit (5/?): Royal Couple

“Klaus…”

The gentle whisper of his name from her lips stilled him, their hands gradually interlaced. Klaus’s storming blue eyes took in every inch of Caroline’s face, a face he has drawn countless times over the years. A face he has always felt he couldn’t fully capture on canvas or paper, though that didn’t stop him from trying.

“Yes, Love?”

“Do you think…” Her blue eyes stray from his as she finds her words. She fixed her eyes on their hands, a small smile growing on her lips again.

“Maybe in another time, we would be…” Her voice trails and she feels her eyes sting but she holds it together. Klaus knew where she was heading and held her hand tightly.

“Yes, my love,”

Caroline’s wishful blue eyes met his and slowly they moved closer, her lips inches away from his.

“Maybe In Another Time… Another World…” Klaus softly spoke.

Caroline looked up and noticed many shadowy figures on the balcony, seemingly corralling the partygoers in the room. But, there was one figure that stood out amongst the rest. He clearly wasn't hiding in the shadows. She could make out his devilishly good looks and that wicked grin. The man leaned slowly onto the railing, just as a flash of light danced across his face. For a brief moment, Caroline felt his eyes meet hers, but she couldn't be too sure. A shiver went down her spine at the thought. Her heart raced at the intensity of the confined place.

“Make no mistake, love. If you let me, I’ll be happy to ravish you all night long.”

She smirked, looking bolder than she felt with her heartbeat ringing loudly in her ears. “Promises…”

“Oh, I’m comfortable promising you all sorts of things, Caroline… The question is— are you?”

He was testing her, wanting to see if she would back down. But, boy, she would never back away from a challenge this sweet.

“Let’s pop open that bottle and you can tell me more about these promises.”

“Caroline. I'm standing in one of my favorite places in the world, surrounded by food, music, art, culture, and all I can think about is how much I want to show it to you. Maybe one day you'll let me.”

Midnight Masquerade 

Just like the first time when his eyes met hers, they sparked an insufferable heat within her. Caroline couldn't deny the allure of darkness any longer. Her knees slightly buckled beneath her, but she kept her face void of any emotion.

At least she hoped it did.

The sinful smirk that grazed his lips told her he wouldn't be missing any movement as long as she was in front of him. His large hand twitches by his side, triggering thoughts of what he could touch with those. 

It was enough for her to give in. She widened her hold on the silk scarf and tossed it around the man in front of her. Pulling his body close to hers. 

Klaus's hand grasped her thigh, hooking behind her knee, and held her in place as she leaned in. "Careful, love," he warned her as his eyes didn't waiver away from hers, trying to read her intentions. 

She knew what she wanted and that if Caroline indulged herself now, she wouldn't be able to take it back. She was ready to accept her fate. He was what she wanted.

Caroline traced up his torso, over his arm, then wrapped her arm around his broad shoulders. Now it was her turn to smirk as she felt the shiver that rippled through his body. She leaned in closer, with their faces barely hovering, side by side.

"And what if I want to be reckless?" she whispered smoothly, her eyes fluttered close. The magnetic pull she felt had her body flushed even closer. "Will you be there to catch me?"

Caroline's smile widens in a manner she did not think herself capable of tonight. "That's my middle name, too."

The look on Klaus' eyes soften into something almost sweet - if that was actually possible for him. "I know."
