What makes Obito, Genma and Orochimaru some of your favorites? Just curious =)
For Obito, it’s because he’s an interesting, complicated character - he’s so angry at everything and everyone, lashing out at the world as a whole, but he’s also just...really naive? He comes at everything from a very simplistic and almost childlike point of view, while still managing to be completely and utterly terrifying in the scope and extent of his plans, not to mention his ability to improvise. Add to that the fact that he logically could have taken care of the entire plot years before the 4th War, and that he didn’t, and that he eventually dragged himself back to the light, and it makes for a lot of space for interpretation and guesswork and characterization, which is like catnip to me.
For Genma, I really, really like what was shown of him. In the first few panels we see with him, he gives Neji advice that impacts him just as much as Naruto’s Talk no Jutsu, but which is understated and delivered without judgement. Then there’s the fact that he’s clearly strong - he and Raidou took on the Sound Four and forced all of them to activate the second stage of their Cursed Seals in order to defeat them. Plus he canonically was Minato’s bodyguard and can do the Flying Thunder God jutsu, which not even Jiraiya or Kakashi could, which is just - really cool.
My fondness for Orochimaru comes from a lot of the same reasons as my fondness for Obito: he’s morally grey-edging-towards-black, he undergoes a hell of a lot of character development from the first time we see him to his appearance in the sequel, and his backstory has lots of layers and interesting aspects. He’s cruel, but takes in orphans; he’s power-hungry, but only because he’s a massive nerd and wants to learn all jutsus everywhere. He’s a traitor, but he was the member of the Sannin who stayed in the village when his team was falling apart. Also, there were so many opportunities for him to take the right path, or be pulled onto it, and that makes for a really fun character to play with.
