what kind of music do you think gold and silver would like?? I have a feeling that would be something between two extremes like either taylor swift or my chemical romance for both (mostly for gold)
For Gold, I don't really have a set headcanon for what he'd like to listen to, but I'd say he'd probably listen to a lot of country and pop. I imagine Johto as being quite country, and the more rural you get, the more it's going to show, so New Bark is a very country/southern town, and Gold grew up listening to country so it's always been a part of his music tastes. The pop comes from him canonically being a DJ Mary fan, and I just feel that she'd mostly make pop music, so that's the other main genre he would like. (he would unironically listen to Taylor Swift) He would also listen to a ton of 'cheesy' romance songs, always has a playlist at the ready for date night.
For Silver, I have a much better idea of music headcanons, because I have actually made a playlist of songs that I think fit him/think he would like to. It is half depressing emo/pop-punk/alt rock artists like MCR, Set It Off, Three Days Grace, Citizen Soldier, and half upbeat J-Pop songs. And of course there are the few songs that bridge that gap that are my personal favorites on the playlist, sounding like upbeat J-Pop but are actually depressing. (Racing Into The Night, Lost One's Weeping, Rollin' Girl, etc) I do also think he would listen to jazz, but I do not so that genre did not make it onto the Silver playlist. Overall however, I don't think he'd be too picky about which genres he likes/doesn't like, he'd just find songs he likes and listen to those, so I could also see a playlist of his liked songs being a mix of all kinds of genres.
Of course these are just my personal headcanons, I'd love to hear what others think these two would listen to if anyone has any different headcanons.

Now, I asked some of my peers about rarer symptoms, and they said things like “hair elbows”, “don’t believe in the number 7″, and “intense preoccupation with Jack in the Box Tacos.” But I think that’s due to the fact some of us tend to get snarky by this time in April.
In truth, there’s not really anything considered “rarer symptoms” for autism. The areas considered common symptoms are pretty much what define autism; all autistic people have some sort of different ways of doing things in those areas, which sometimes (usually always) causes difficulties, and it might be unique to each person. It is, of course, possible for an autistic person to have other issues that aren’t related to them being autistic, like GI issues, or allergies, or seizures. Those have nothing to do with autism, but just like everyone else, we can have them too.
So, yeah, there isn’t any, is gonna have to be my answer, unless you’re thinking of something really specific.

Realizing now that I've never posted pics of my cats. Time to change that.
This is Luna, she's the older of the two. Turns 16 this year, and I've had her for 12 years. Very calm and mellow, spends most of her time sleeping probably cause of her age, but does get very talkative when she wants food or attention. Definition of void cat, watch where you're walking when the lights are off. I like to call her Mrs. Ma'am. Where that came from, I don't remember, but I rarely even call her by her name anymore because Mrs. Ma'am is just so much more fun to say.
Then this, is Dipper. He's 6, have had him for 5 years now. One thing you should know about him, is that he's an asshole. (Said in a very affectionate way, I love him very much.) His favorite thing to do is just get in the way, more specifically, laying in my lap while I'm trying to write or do things that having a cat in my lap makes very hard to do. (I have so many photos of him laying on my lap/shoulder/keyboard, like seriously probably a third of my gallery is just pictures of him laying on me.) He's just a troublemaker, but I love him.

No screenshot, but I saw a post once about how Gold and Silver were good friends, but were boring as a couple and had absolutely no chemistry. Not the first time I've seen the "Gold and Silver have no chemistry" take, but it perplexes me every time I see it, because it always seems like such a basic response to try and completely discredit the gay ship when in canon, they honestly seem to have the best chemistry out of all of the Johto ships.
8: Common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
Silver. Never. Hated. Gold. At most, he was annoyed that Gold was getting in the way of his plans, but it was never the hate that a lot of people seem to think Silver felt towards him. And actually, from the start, when he's telling Gold "stay away and leave me alone," he's saying that in an attempt to keep Gold out of the danger, because he doesn't want anyone to get hurt in this plan that he knows is insane and has a high chance of ending poorly. (I could write an entire post about Silver's gsc behavior to disprove this entire idea people have about Silver hating Gold, which I'm 99% sure is just from people too heavily mixing game!Silver's personality with spe's)
17: There should be more of this kind of fic/art
Fics where Silver's other, non-masked man related trauma is acknowledged. What do you mean there are no fics where he has nightmares about almost drowning in the lake of rage? (This one applies to Gold too since he was also there) Or almost burning to death in the airship fire? Or being frozen in stone, and conscious, for four months? (I know a lot of people say it was 3, but I have done the math on this, it is 4) Give me him waking up in a panic and needing to get up and move just to be sure that he can still move, bouncing his leg all the time because even though he was trained as a child to suppress the need to fidget, after being unable to move for four months straight, he finds that he needs to keep moving or he gets extremely anxious, and other things like that. I also have to imagine that he wasn't really able to sleep while petrified, and that had to have come with a whole bunch of issues. There is so much potential when looking at all the traumatic events that happened during the arcs.
It’s funny that you mentioned reworking a fic from when you first started writing and comparing it to now, because I just recently did the same thing!
I usually rewrite and fill in from the bones of what I’d written in the past, and it’s crazy to compare how different my “voice” sounds, and sure it took work to get the old fic to my current writing level, but it’s been fun to see how much I’ve grown in my skills.
I always compare writing to exercise, when you first start, it’s hard, and a lot of times you feel terrible or inadequate comparing yourself to others levels, but the more you do it (consistently especially) the stronger you get, and most of the time you don’t realize how much you’ve grown until you go back and look at where you’ve been.
All this to say, you gave great writing advice to that recent anon, and I’m so glad you started writing again and have the bravery to share your fics with the fandom!
I've absolutely loved the exercise analogy every time I've seen you use it, because that's exactly what it is. Perfect way to describe the writing journey, or really just any kind of artistic journey.

It is always wild to actually see the improvement though, because it does never really feel like there's been any. I've never had the thought while writing of, "Oh, this is much better than what I could've done 2 years ago," but then as soon as I'm rereading one of my first fics or an unposted wip from around the same time, the difference is glaringly obvious.
Also I love the idea of rewriting older fics being filling in the bones with your current writing voice. That's exactly what it feels like, taking the idea and the basics of the writing and then adding everything else it needs to really hit hard. I had a scene that was essentially nothing but telling what happened, and for a scene that was supposed to be emotional, I can tell you that it had almost no emotion to it, but rewriting it now, I was able to add in that emotion that it severely lacked, because over the years, I've learned how to add details and expand on ways to make the writing actually carry the emotions I want it to.
There was also a whole bunch of other issues with the past scene like my unwillingness to go back and edit what I had already written leading to me sorta, writing myself into a corner that left the scene with a vibe that was completely off and wrong from what I wanted. I didn't want to go back and have to completely rework the previous sections to get the desired vibe I wanted, so I just rolled with what I had, which ended with a scene I wasn't truly happy with which might be why the chapter never got finished. It's hard to have the motivation to finish something you don't like. And I have now since realized that editing is extremely necessary, and it is just a fact of writing that sometimes the first draft isn't working at all, and you will have to go back and completely remove certain sections or rewrite them until the first draft is barely recognizable from the current one. But the missing emotion in what was supposed to be an extremely emotional scene was the main thing I saw and realized had improved, and now that it's been rewritten, something that happened by complete chance due to me getting a new idea for it two years after I last touched it, I love what it's become, even if I did have to strip down the idea to it's base, or it's bones, and then rebuild it from essentially the ground up.
So also I guess another piece of advice I forgot to add onto the other post is just to edit, and don't be afraid to cut out scenes that don't give the fic the feeling you want it to have because unfortunately not everything you write will make it into the end product, but it's better to have to cut those sections out or rewrite them than have something you're unhappy with.
I was really trying to channel my best advice to give that anon because I love seeing others being interested in writing, and always want to encourage them to at least try. Mainly because it would (hopefully) mean more fics for our small fandom lol, but I also know that if someone who was maybe too scared to try gave it a shot, they could find out that they really love writing, and turn it into a fun hobby. That's what happened when I started writing, went from something I was unsure about doing again and not knowing if it would actually go anywhere, to turning into something I now love doing, and I would love to see that happen for someone else. I don't even know what I'd be doing with my free time now if I hadn't gotten an idea and randomly decided one afternoon to try writing fanfic again. Those first few pages written were definitely the scariest, but pushing past the discomfort and awkwardness was well worth it.
I got to rambling a bit again, but I do love being able to compare the differences in something like this and yap about it. If I felt confident enough with my past writing to share it with the public, I'd post the screenshots of the old vs new scene to really make the differences I'm talking about clear (because I'm not kidding, it is glaringly obvious) but alas that will probably not happen.

As far as the writing question goes, I do have a few tips.
First thing is just to write. No matter how bad you may think it is, the main way you will improve is through actually writing. This is actually the perfect time to get this ask, because I just spent the past couple days rewriting the idea that got me back into fic writing. It was never posted because I never finished the first chapter, but I wrote the sections I have of this fic between April and July/August of 2024, and prior to that, I had not done any creative writing since 2018/19. If I showed the screenshots of the previous version and the version I just wrote side by side, you can clearly see the major improvement that my writing has gone through. I even have another unposted fic (that I'm hoping to post soon) with a few chapters from just last year, and it's definitely not the worst thing I've written, I could post it as it is and still be happy with it, but rereading it, I can see areas that need improving. The number one tip you will ever get for improving writing is just to do it. This is from nothing but just continuing to write. No courses, no classes, nothing but what I've picked up from writing over the past 2 years.
Figure out what your own writing voice is, then get comfortable with it, and you will see improvement from the first, honestly, several pieces you write. Rereading old pieces and realizing how it could be improved is a sign that you've improved. (I don't mean just going, "this is bad," I'm talking if you read a sentence and think of a specific way that you could change it to read better. Just calling it bad without having reason as to why you think it's bad doesn't mean anything but that you're being too overly critical of yourself.)
One thing that's helped for me, is also making sure to read a lot. I find that it helps improve vocabulary, sometimes you read a sentence and find a word that you've never heard before, but then look up and realize it would be perfect in a sentence you've been struggling to word correctly. And, if you're stuck on a scene, you truly just have no idea how to describe or word what you're trying to, reading similar scenes can help you figure out where to go in your own scene. Obviously, do not plagiarize, but seeing the way others choose to word their scenes could help you find that missing piece that's making the scene such a struggle to write.
Don't be afraid to jump around different scenes as inspiration hits. The story does not need to be written in a linear format. I've written fics in order before, but I also have at least a dozen fics where I get to thinking about a scene 3 chapters from the one I'm writing, and start writing that one because the juices are flowing, and then suddenly I've written out the entire chapter, when if I had waited to write it, I probably would have spent twice or three times as long writing it simply because the vibe just wasn't there. When inspiration strikes, I rarely wait to take advantage of it, no matter which scene of the fic it goes to.
And on that same topic, sometimes if a scene or idea isn't working at the moment, all you can do is set it down and walk away from it. Whether that be going to another wip and writing something there, or taking a break from writing for the rest of the day and doing something else relaxing like going on a walk, or playing a game, or watching a movie. It's perfectly acceptable to realize that a scene isn't working at the moment, or your brain isn't working with you, and putting it down until later. (I like to call it putting the wip in solitary confinement lol) Also make sure to write down ideas you have as soon as you can, because you will be shocked at the amount of times you have an idea that you think you won't forget, and then by the time you sit down to put it on the page, all the amazing details you just had are completely gone.
Make fandom friends that you can talk about your writing with! Most people in fandom spaces are more than happy to talk about any kind of fan content, so if you don't currently have someone to talk to, find someone you think seems cool, send a dm and get to talking with them. And even if those friends aren't writers themselves, they can still have amazing ideas to play off what you already have, or give constructive criticism. Or even encourage you to keep going on a fic. Having someone to talk to while writing can easily boost the motivation to actually to write it and have an end product to show them. (Shoutout Bestie, I know you're reading this. I love you <3)
The only piece of advice I can give you for like, actually writing that I can give you is to make sure you're watching your tenses. When I first started writing again, and in my first few posted fics, I was jumping tenses all over the place because I simply wasn't paying attention to it. Pick a tense to write in, and then watch to makes sure you don't accidentally slip into the other. (This is something I'm still occasionally guilty of myself whenever I write past-tense. I'm so used to writing in present that sometimes I accidentally slip back into it in a past-tense scene and have to go back and fix it, or just miss it and it ends up in the posted fic, so it's not the worst thing you could do, but that is a mistake I made, so just wanted you to be aware of it.)
But overall, the best tip I can give is just to have fun with it. At the end of the day, the quality of the writing doesn't matter as long as you have fun with it. That's what fandom is all about. We're all here to have fun, and everyone should be included, no matter their 'skill level.' I can guarantee that no matter how bad you may think your writing is, there is an audience for it, and maybe a piece that you think is bad will end up being a hit in the fandom. (glances at my first few preciousmetal fics that could definitely use major improvements but are somehow my most popular)
Sorry about the essay. I didn't think I had this much to say on the topic, but then this all just spilled out lol. There's probably more that I'm forgetting, but this is what I can give you for now. Go out there, get the scary part over with and put words on the page, and have fun with it!

My current Ao3 word count is sitting at 124,561, and it took me a minute to add up my wip word counts (cause like I said in the last ask, lots of wips </3) but I got 108,584 for wip word count. So in total I wrote about 233,145. I probably missed some because I was only counting wips that I made a decent amount of progress in (anything that had more than like, 300 words) but wow, I did not realize I had written that much. Part of the reason that's so high compared to the Ao3 stats is because of several multi-chapter fics that I started at some point either this year or last year, and wrote a lot for without actually posting. (One wip is at 20k, and there's another that's sitting at 50k which I wrote about half of this year) And I also just have a lot of wips. Like, I'm not kidding. I am drowning in wips. Help.

I mentioned this in the last ask, but, post-hgss longfic focused on repairing Giovanni & Silver's relationship, because canon screwed them over, and I want to explore how they could mend things after the events of canon. (Essentially, how Silver comes to accept Giovanni as his father despite all the stuff with Team Rocket, and fighting past that biased he has in canon that Giovanni couldn't possibly want to be a good father because he runs Team Rocket.)
Another one was a Preciousmetal fantasy au where Gold is a part of a knight's order, and in an attempt to get more recognition, and be the "hero of the region", tries to catch this elusive thief that's been running around the region (Silver) on his own. He ends up getting roped into Silver's plan to stop this 'greater evil' that Silver keeps talking about (Pryce/Masked Man) and by the end they stop Pryce and fall in love, etc, etc. I have the whole thing outlined, but I never actually wrote anything more than like, 2k for the first chapter. Essentially it's kinda just a retelling of gsc but in a fantasy/magic au, but I think it's a neat idea and might try to work on it more next year. This one also had the idea of a sequel where they find out Silver is the missing prince from a kingdom in Kanto, and other frlg-type stuff happens, but that sequel idea never made it too far before I stopped working on that fic.
I think the better question here is what isn't still in my wips lol. I have so many fics still just sitting in my docs, maybe 1 out of 10 of them actually gets finished and posted because I am really bad at actually finishing ideas if the motivation doesn't stick around long enough. Most of them are oneshots focusing around either Preciousmetal or Giovanni & Silver, with a few Johtoshipping, Blue & Silver, and Green & Silver ones. Also, fun fact, I have 5 different soulmate au wips sitting somewhere in my docs. I am a sucker for soulmate aus, so I tend to start a new wip whenever I hear/read about a version that I think would make a cute preciousmetal fic.
There's also one fic that I started back in March, and has been sitting in my wips with the first 2 and a half chapters completed since May because I told myself that I was gonna get the first 5 chapters done before I posted the first one, and then proceeded to get distracted by other fics and now write maybe 1k words for it every month. But it's a post-canon (hgss) longfic focusing on repairing Giovanni & Silver's relationship, because I think canon did them so dirty and I want to fix that. And hopefully I can start posting that relatively soon because I think it's an amazing fic and probably my favorite one I've written this year even if I didn't post it.
💬 What dialogue are you most proud of?
I think for this one I have to say the dialogue at the end of "At First Glance It's Wrong (So Take A Closer Look)" I just really think that it's such a soft and sweet moment, after all the misunderstandings have been cleared up, and I'm really fond of scenes like that, where everything can just exist for a moment. (My favorite dialogue that I've written overall is actually in a wip, but that one hasn't been posted, so I can't choose that)
💭 What descriptions are you most proud of?
This one is actually a toss-up so I'm gonna give both of my answers.
The first one is just most of "Cenotaph". Describing the graveyard, and all of Silver's thoughts was a lot of fun, along with trying to pack in as much angst as I could.
The second is from "Never Fall In Love Again", and it's just any point where I describe the red string of fate. In aus like that, I have so much fun figuring out how elements that don't actually exist would work, and I feel like I did a really good job describing it and making it feel real. There's a bunch of other descriptions in that fic that I like too, but the string is definitely my favorite.
