They don’t need to be told their art is bad- give them tools to try harder and improve. Cheer them on so they become passionate in their work, and in time that passion will fuel improvement.
It took me ten years to improve this much between these drawings of me. But art is a journey- not a race. And no one should be judged by the speed of their personal growth.

Hey, since someone was a little curious to know more about my characters, I figured I’d make a little introductory post of sorts!
Arani and Amo are two focal characters in my sci-fi webcomic I’m working on called Xenoplant.
They’re conjoined twins who belong to a very socially harmonious, spiritual alien plant species.
Despite their best efforts, the two only somewhat tolerate each other 25% of the time because they’ve been stuck together forever since they sprouted together around uhhhh....*checks watch* 1000 years ago.
Travel on a solar power-fueled meteor, going around tending to all sorts of alien plantlife they encounter.
Amo (the plant face) is entirely sentient, can speak fluently and is almost pretentiously smart. Hates when people assume they aren’t alive or only acknowledge their sibling.
Tumblr’s NS//FW flagging bot has no fucking understanding or nuance between non-sexual nudity (which is fucking allowed in the ToS) and adult art. It’s even starting to flag entirely censored non-sexual nudity, which is ESPECIALLY allowed under the rules Tumblr has laid out post-December 2018.
Case in point, one of the more adult-themed sketchdumps I posted recently didn’t get flagged, meanwhile a separate post with SFW previews of that very art got flagged to shit.
This is utterly asinine, and this is not a healthy environment for artists.
