The Rolf Challenge
You are Rolf; One of many brothers in the long stretching family that is a lesser clan of Dwarves. As the son of a shepherd on the cliff-edged family farm of Wetlands you have never truly traveled far beyond your home, going as far as Ironforge but never further, until now. New to the ways of combat and with something pulling you for more in your life, you set out alone, or with a brother to chase your dream (together/alone) intent to either succeed, or make the walk of shame home to Pa and hear “I told you so”.
Race:Bronzebeard Dwarf Name: Rolf Class restrictions: Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Brawler (monk). As a hunter you may not start with a pet, you must encounter one through a quest chain raising it, or purchase and raise a creature from another PC, or from battle-pet vendor. (more info below).
Professions: Blacksmithing, Leatherworking, Tailoring, + any gathering profession. In addition to; Fishing, Cooking, and First Aid. You can mix and match anything as you please or even learn and unlearn professions at will.
Beginning your quest!:
In your first steps away from home you get your hair cut from mum, and begin with a Coldridge Mountaineer’s Pouch packed by her (This will require you to complete the quest ‘Pack your Bags’ in Coldridge Valley.) After discarding EVERYTHING ELSE (This includes hearthstone and money) but your clothes, one profession tool, and the contents of the pack+the pack itself you will hop the Deeprun Tram and move to Stormwind.
Quests: You may take any quest you deem acceptable that your Rolf would do IC, but from the moment you begin you are always IC. If your Rolf would not hunt a dragon, which they probably wouldn’t, you are not able to do the quest- no matter how good the loot looks.
Combat: Combat is exceptionally difficult for Rolf’s, and some classes over others are far worse. In combat you are only able to use auto-attacks in addition to each ability ONCE per combat. Be smart with how you fight or you may just live a short life, plan with your fellow Rolf on how to take down a crowd of enemies. Rolf’s also are restricted on their abilities as well, anything deemed ‘magical’ would be inaccessible, I.E; A warrior Rolf could not use Thunderclap, Brawler would not use Crackling Jade Lightning, etc. Gearing up!: Most of your armor, weapons, and supplies won’t drop from enemies even if you’re lucky. So you will be forced to rely on NPC vendors. Any items sold by a vendor you are allowed to use as long as you can afford it. And anything plausible to sell can be sold to a vendor, just keep in mind what they would buy and what is trash. (nobody wants tangled fishing line or sick fish.) Inventory: Bags: For your bags you are able to use your Backpack, Coldridge Mountaineer’s Pouch, and any pouch or bag that has less than 8 slots. Also permitted is the use of a profession bag at any size you wish. Contents: You may carry anything you wish with you with little exceptions; You can carry at most 3 weapons at a time, those being; (a Melee weapon, a Ranged weapon, and one extra of your choice to sell, or use.) A pair of daggers only count as 1 weapon. And you may carry one additional set of clothes beside your armor, but remember bag space is limited!
Loot!: Any armor that drops from a humanoid mob can be looted so long as you roll a 15+ on a D20. A wolf would not drop armor, and an orc would not drop something your size. If you find armor off of a dwarf you must take it back to the city and have it tailored to you before using it and may skip the roll. You may loot anything you wish from a corpse, but only sell plausible things to like-minded NPC’s; (The tailor would not buy iron ore, but the blacksmith would! No one would want useless junk items either, so you simply have to destroy them) All coin you find you may keep, but you may NOT accept ANYTHING that is an item from other PC’s. They may RP assisting you with healing or other things, but they may not give you anything. Treasure chest/ Rarespawns: Is you are fortunate to find a treasure chest the contents are yours, armor still needing to be tailored, but anything you find inside you may keep. For rarespawns, should they drop armor you may keep it so long as you return to the city and have it refitted for your dwarf, and all weapons from Rarespawns/treasure chests you can keep! Keep in mind plausibility with loot drops, if the mob you killed wouldn’t have it, don’t take it. Animals won’t have weapons, gold, etc. NOTICE FOR WEAPON DROPS: If a weapon drops off of a humanoid character whether it is grey/white/green/blue/or epic quality you have to roll to keep it. 15 or higher from a D20.
DEATH: Death is a given, it’s going to happen no matter how hard you prepare for it, but there is a way for Rolf’s to fix the issue. To get your Rolf back up he must consume health potions of any kind to at least half-health. If you become half-health you may bandage and fix the wound to continue fighting, but if you go down again you must heal to full with health potions the next time, and failing again will result in critical wounds forcing you to seek player help or a second option more info below; Player help; If injured, you may be dragged back to the city to seek aid from another player to heal you through Roleplay. It does not matter the method, but they have to fix your wound so you can seek out anything you like; a doctor, priest, druid, shaman it’s all okay! No way out: If you can not make it to town because you are a Rolf without a brother to help drag you and you’ve no potions left, you may choose one other option; if a humanoid npc kills you you are robbed, all of your items must be deleted and all of your money discarded. The only thing you can keep is your empty bags. If an animal npc kills you, you must dump everything in your bag to lighten the load while you escape but you may keep your armor, no weapon though. After either option you must seek immediate aid from another Player to heal you until continuing on.
Interacting with others!: This is a Difficult leveling experience, but it revolves around leveling in character. You will need help from others frequently for any number of reasons, but there are small restrictions: You may sell items to other players via RP (like mining ore and selling it, fishing and being a fish salesman, etc.) But you may only sell an item for double the vendor price at most- NO MORE, no matter how much they give you. And you can not buy from other players for anything less than double the vendor price of an item with the exception of no buying; armor, weapons, or potions. But you can have anything given to you by a fellow Rolf! A Rolf learning the blacksmith trade can freely trade weapons and armor to the others, a leatherworker can make anyone anything and so on. (FOR HUNTERS:) Obtaining your Pet:
Since you are not able to start out with your pet you will begin leveling as Survival. Pets can be acquired in a few different ways though. You can purchase them from other characters in RP; if another PC is a houndmaster selling dogs, (or any creature with a hunter pet model), it is a good way to get that wolf you’re after, it will cost you whatever they wish but at a minimum of 50 silver and you will get it as an infant. Battle-Pet trainers: If a vendor has it, you can buy it as long as it has a hunter pet model. Examples being, the darkmoon faire has pets, as such you can buy those, train them, and make them become your pet. Or buying a bird from an NPC vendor would allow you to get a like-modeled hunter pet bird eventually. Quests: If a quest has you form a bond with an animal, and raise it, like the raptor child quest in Stranglethorn for one example, you may raise it this way and then keep it to teach to become a hunter pet. Professions/drops: In fishing you may pull up a crocodile, a turtle, or a crab. Other professions have similar ways of randomly acquiring a companion pet, should you be so fortunate you may take them on as a hunter pet. BECOMING A HUNTER PET. Hunter pets have to be raised and trained before they can be used. Once you have the companion pet model, you must level with them out for 5 of your own levels whilst teaching them and forming a bond of trust. Once you, Rolf, have earned 5 levels with your companion pet out they can become a full Hunter pet and you may use them for Combat. Some pets have similar models to mounts; turtles, rams, bears, etc. If you level your Hunter pet 10 times, that means the first 5 plus 10 more, you may use them as a mount now if you have a mount-model of them. But don’t forget you have to feed your pets each day too! ((This is being editted still and frequently but it is the main template of our IC ruleset, and leveling adventure.))
