Still alive ;]
Found myself thinking about this blog a number of times these past weeks, likely because tomorrow is the seven (!) year anniversary of its conception.
Needless to say, I am in a very different part of my life and career now than when I was running it, and I do not have the time to muck around with my little gimmick blog anymore. I fear this is not me signposting a return, even though I do miss those days. I am glad the term ragebaiting has entered public consciousness this year, because it really is one of my favorite pastimes.
General thoughts, diary.
Recently, I have been seeing a lot of my flag around, making some surprisingly mainstream appearances in rather random corners of the internet. Bewildering to me, considering the original post never broke 300 notes. I think it persists because of the "shock value" it brings the average person. I cannot lie and say I do not feel some sort of pride for making my mark on the internet iceberg.
That said, it does amuse me that the primary use-case for my flag seems to be as decoration for the black-and-red Carrd themes of 15-year-old LARPers. There is something uniquely internet-age about seeing all the outrage, witch-hunts, name-calling, and furious moralizing being levied against teenagers for whom the identity is merely an edgy construct/signifier of uniqueness rather than admission of any true desire. I really think some of you doing the witch-hunting need to get better at discerning who is "doing it for attention" as it were, because every public encounter I have witnessed, I can safely say you are wasting your energy. If you are one of these teenagers, I do hope you grow out of it. Or don't, honestly. My friends love to send me screenshots of encountering it in the wild, and I do get a kick out of it.
Love x
