On June 21, 2015, the world lost a great artist and visionary leader, one who will be sorely missed. Gunther Schuller was my lifelong mentor and teacher, and one of my best friends. He was a performer, composer, conductor, writer, publisher, improviser, educator, administrator and avid listener and concertgoer. Gunther Schuller was truly the compleat musician.
So pleased and excited to welcome pianist and The Bad Plus cofounder Ethan Iverson to NEC's jazz studio faculty, beginning fall 2016!

While this program is presented as part of the German-titled "Liederabend" series, this program will offer an evening of French mélodies—a tribute to John Moriarty and his special association with this repertoire. Moriarty retired from NEC last spring. He is a man of many talents and literally "wrote the book" on singing in French; Moriarty's Diction (1975, rev. 2008) is still a standard reference work for singers.
