she’s still not used to this,     having more people looking out for her.    and even stranger,    some of those people are the ones she once held such a strong vengeance for.      brooke was an enemy   ------   perhaps just collateral damage to audrey’s real goals,      because she didn’t really know her   ----    not like she does now.     she never looked at her like a REAL PERSON,     but that was audrey’s problem.       she gets hurt,     so she makes everyone in her way the enemy,     and she doesn’t care who gets hurt in the process as long as she can make herself feel better.      befriending piper was supposed to make all her problems go away;    it was supposed to free her of all hatred and disappointment and neglect.     instead,    it only ruined her.     it turned her into a monster    -----    a monster who was getting away with it.      she’s no longer the same girl who sought out piper and wrote such angry words about her former best friend;      she was BETTER now,     but that didn’t make her good.    she would still do whatever it took to ensure her newfound friends don’t see past that mask she’s still wearing.   she has no reason to harm anyone anymore   -----    but that doesn’t mean her own selfishness has fled.     it still has a tight grip on her every move.    

❝   a year ago,    i would have laughed if anyone told me brooke maddox would be lookin’ out for me,  ❞        she insists,     smile forming over her features as she shrugs her shoulders.     brooke is good    (    much better than she ever made her out to be in those letters to piper    )     and she regretted never having the chance to know that long ago.       she doesn’t want to miss a beat now.        ❝   and i would’ve laughed at myself to think you’d be one of my best friends.   ❞        arm moves around her shoulders in a comforting manner,    pulling the girl closer to her as she often had.     that was also new   ----    this affection she found herself giving so easily to those who were NEW in her life.         ❝     but you’re right,     maddox.     you’ve got me.     no turning back now.   ❞       despite who audrey still is at the core   ----   despite every wrong she had done without her friends aware,       she means that.     when she cares,     she cares deeply.     and this protective nature over brooke isn’t a fluke;    it’s real.     she doesn’t want anything to happen to her again.

             ❛   am i supposed to be surprised?   ❜   she’s grinning from ear to ear,   not willing to pass up such an obvious opportunity at a laugh.   raven inhales sharply through her nose,   chuckling as her expression softens up significantly.   it’s all done in good fun        especially since she doesn’t have much room to talk.

               “ gun like that’s way too nice to be wasted on kneecaps. ”     shaw gestures to the holstered weapon, maybe a little too comfortable with the idea of using it for a straight shot dead between the eyes. (finch doesn’t like that kind of thing. she reluctantly obliges. kneecaps only, enough to stop but not kill. kind of boring, but he’s the one who pays her bills, so.)
