Little Stars
Now and for sometime a large outcrop of trees had begun to cluster together at the center of the Little Rock Meadows. The daily news reported the absurdity of the situation the next morning printing a statement that said,Â
âIt is unusual for the organic system of a tree to grow legs and walk into an otherwise densely populated urban area.â No one disagreed and it seemed that the tree scandal was all anyone could talk about in the next couple of days. If the trees did not move by some unclaimed magic then surely this was a message from the gods. No one could exactly tell which god delivered the message but itâs pretty clear-the town agreed-that this was a warning to change the hubris of an urban neighborhood designed to mimic homes of the gods. The local secretary of sorcery released a statement to address rumors of the tree scandal being a direct omen of an inevitable apocalypse.Â
âUntil the augury receives some kind of message confirming that these trees were an act of a divine god the official department of sorcery will not take any actions to appease the gods.â She continued on, ignoring the sounds of protesting religious figureheads outside the cityâs official magic registry building, âMaybe the trees were just bored and wanted a change of scenery.â Â
At this time, the trees had taken root on the roof of Molly Sharpâs home, who was official figurehead for the Cantok church of the One God. This put Tyria at a disadvantage because recently she had just begun a research project on the migration pattern of sentient stars.Â
âHow can I see the stars if there are trees in the way,â she complained to her mother.
âItâs not so bad,â her mother said, pointedly ignoring the slender tree branch that poked itâs head through a gaping hole in the wall. âPerhaps this can be an opportunity to convince your father that the field observations are a necessity.â Tyria had not thought about it that way, but it sounded like a fair enough arrangement.
âAlright,â Tyria relented, âBut if he doesnât agree to this I just might climb the damn trees myself and hang off of them like a monkey.â Her mother said nothing, but the seriousness of her face became pinched and strained with amusement.Â
The stars were mindless creatures as Tyria had observed in her research. They galloped across the sky during the night and hid behind the clouds during the day getting drunk on the wisps of fermented moonlight that had been caught in the nets of the cumulonimbus. Tyria could not be more bored out of her mind and she often found herself daydreaming about the old days of stars that the gods had detailed in their holy script when their was war that raged with thunder several arrows were shot from great plasmic quivers and when they connected with the earthscape electricity came down in a current. This was so frequent it was considered just as common as an average rainfall.Â
In these days the clouds didnât sleep, just like the moon and the sun did not take turns with the expansive sky. Of course since Tyria was a Cantok born and raised in a Cantok household she knew that she wasnât to believe these stories are true-really she promised her father when he warned her about the taboos of astronomy.Â
âThe only thing that can come from the science of stars is the magic of stars followed by the history of stars and thatâs how they get you,â he jabbed the point of his finger in the air to demonstrate that what he says was true because he was a man of great confidence. Tyria bowed her head,Â
âOf course,â she said, but her notebooks were filled with all sorts of stories about the stars. The forbidden kind of stories.Â

I donât know where I would go with this, I feel like the fantasy is a little too nonsensical. But Iâm really interested in elaborating on the religions and how they clash. As well as the dynamics of each religion.Â
