Are there cases of people only receiving their magic and familiars after reaching adulthood? Obviously given the range between Jan's brothers and Philomena (who's only had her magic for a little while) not everyone starts at the same time, so would there be cases even older than the main characters? Also im guessing familiars would count their age from when they 'spawned' rather than being the same age as their magician, otherwise Romeo is a Fucking old hamster
magic is like language, the older you get the harder and less likely it is you’re going to become fluent. if it doesn’t come in naturally by the time you’re in late puberty, you’re not going to get it at all without effort or Extenuating Circumstances, like su.
familiars age at the same rate as their magicians. so romeo is, like, at Least 20 years old, and that’s fine. he’s magic and won’t start seeming actually Old until joe starts being Old.
ALSO what happens to a magician or familiar after one has died but not the other? I can imagine it's pretty rough for them either way. Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary but its for older familiars whose magicians have passed away
