In this in-class activity we had to do a collage of things related to nature. In the first picture is the brainstorming of my thought process in this assignment, each picture leads to the other one. Ending on what I always think about when thinking of nature: the beach (also one of my favorite things in the world).

The main goal of the project was “nature” and I chose the first thing that I could associate in my head with nature, namely flowers. In order for my project to be as diverse as possible, I went on a short trip with my classmates and managed to find a bunch of interesting specimens for the project, I've took a photo of them on my phone, You can see most of the pictures from there on the first screenshot. Moving on to the second screenshot, I tried to find everything that could be associated with flowers, but I didn’t wanted to take trivial pictures with flowers, on the contrary, I wanted to find something more intriguing, such as the capture and overflowing of the entire human body with flowers, including the city, as some kind of "flower apocalypse". I found this idea extremely interesting, I don’t remember seeing something like that somewhere.

This work was a result of being inspired to create a piece inspired by a song melody. An artist that immediately called to my mind was the avant-garde Icelandic singer, Bjork. Her dynamic lyrics and experimental, yet melodic melodies are emblematic of abstract art. I felt drawn to one of her most famous songs of her first album 'Debut'', titled "Venus as a Boy". The work is an ambient love song, full of themes of beauty, sensuality, and passion. She experimented in this song with a myriad of instruments, ranging from a violin, to Indian string instruments, and a sample of a breaking bottle. The circular dots and line patterns I used represented my listening experience. Each different stroke and ink mark was my response to the varied layers of instrumentation in the work.

For this prompt, we were instructed to ponder on what the meaning of natural means and look at various forms that capture the essence of the form that we had chosen. I used pinterest in order to find images relating to butterflies. I chose a butterfly because I feel these creatures are not only beautiful, but they align with what the concept of natural is. When I think of the word natural, I think of something in its most pure and simplest form. What is so interesting about a butterfly is that you do not just see it as just a butterfly, you can also see it as an art form. Whether it be through geometric forms, lines, shapes, and patterns, the embodiment of a butterfly is evident.

I chose the word ‘bright’ to base my photo collection of off for this project. Most of these pictures are from my personal photo library. They represent moments that I captured when the world looked clear and airy through my camera. I included lots of natural images, blurred lines of fluorescent/street lights, animals, windows, the moon and sun, etc. Some of these images are literally “bright” while most of them are simply a moment that felt bright. To me these are pictures that look hopeful, exciting and sunlit.
