Difficult though for me to even hear the haters at the moment over this darkly booming Charli xcx Wuthering Heights tie-in/concept album, featuring JOHN CALE doing spoken word poetry over some of the most grimly baroque avant-pop you’ve ever heard, and on a later track Mother LAURIE ANDERSON on overwhelming viola!!!! Cannot believe I thought one song being titled ‘Wall of Sound’ was just a Phil Spector reference and not clearly (also) a LAURIE ONE! Anyone else by the way just constantly encountering reverbed out Laurie Anderson pieces in contemporary art museums in abandoned mills and performed live in your college theater at an impressionable age, or is that just me? Is Charli xcx’s Wuthering Heights my Emerald Fennell’s “Wuthering Heights”?
