Do either of you have experience with NatsuCon in Collinsville, IL? I'm nervous about attending the Artist Alley. I've never been to a convention before and really don't have the means to attend as a regular visitor.
Kiriska: I’ve never been, no. You might try to poke around the #Natsucon tags on Tumblr and Twitter to see what others’ experiences have been like though.
I do highly recommend trying to find even a cheap small, one-day show or something to check out prior to tabling, just to get a tiny taste of what you can expect, but other than that, the only thing to do is just plan and prepare the heck out of it to stem the nerves.
A lot of what we discussed in this post is still relevant here – make a list of everything you want to get out of the con to help yourself prepare to reach those goals, and make a list of everything you’re afraid of or that makes you especially nervous, and plot out specific ways you might deal with those situations if they arise.
Nattosoup: It is a much larger investment to buy a table and not make costs than it is to buy a one day badge and do some research. Honestly, if you hang around outside the con, someone may be willing to let you borrow their badge for an hour so you can scope out the Alley, and some cons don’t even check badges for Artist Alley entrance as it’s in a very public space.
