So I was thinking about Natquik and Calico Jacks relationship and was thinking about Barnacles and Kwaziis perspectives and came up with some LORE.
Also I’m gonna start calling Natquik and Calico Jack, NatJack
I think it’s a good ship name
With Barnacles, due to his mentorship with Natquik, Barnacles probably somewhat knew Calico Jack. Being as young as he was (maybe around 9 or 10, idk still figuring it out), he didn’t fully understand their relationship, as far as he was aware, the two were just very close friends. When Barnacles got older though, he realized that the two were much more than friends, by the time he realized though, the twos relationship had ended. He also didn’t know Calico Jacks name and only referred to him as ‘The Pirate’. Barnacles only learned his name years later when Kwazii was telling him a story and showed him an old picture of him, Barnacles immediately realizing that the pirate all those years ago was Calico Jack. When the two meet again in the Amazon, Calico Jack waited for a chance to talk to Barnacles alone, also recognizing him, to ask about Natquik but unfortunately at the time, Barnacles couldn’t give an answer due to Natquik still being considered ‘missing’ at the time, unbeknownst to the two, Natquik was in the Antarctic. In the present, Barnacles tries not to be biased and stay professional, however there is that small part of him that’s not to fond of Calico Jack, due to witnessing what the aftermath of his and Natquiks relationship did to Natquik, or at least, whenever Natquik failed to mask his emotions around him. Barnacles is aware he cant really think anything about it because he doesnt really know what exactly happened between the two, he can’t help it though, Natquik raised him, and is basically a father to him, natural he be a bit protective of him.
Going back to Kawzii, I imagine he doesn’t know any of this, or at least nothing about the past. As far as he’s aware, he only met Natquik when the crew went to Antarctica after hearing the distress signal, and his granddad met Natquik when they both became octoagents. Kwazii has met Natquik before, years ago, but just too young to remember, only being a small kitten at the time. Like Barnacles, Natquik immediately recognizes Kwazii, however he does not bring it up, nor does he plan to. Like Calico Jack, he waits for a moment to speak with Barnacles alone, though not to ask about Calico Jack, just wanting to catch up. Barnacles was the one to bring it up, and immediately regretting doing so when he saw the look on Natquiks face. Natquik assures him that it’s alright, all he tells Barnacles is that the two used to have a relationship, and it ended on very bad terms. He also asked one, to not talk about his past relationship with Calico Jack to Kwazii and two, that if he were to meet Calico Jack again, not to tell him where he is, but Natquiks whereabouts get back to Calico Jack anyway due to Kwazii.
In present time, Kwazii is still unaware about the twos past relationship, no one saying anything to him. Natquik not bringing up that fact that he’s met him before, Barnacles not saying anything due to promising Natquik, and Calico Jack who isn’t saying anything because he just doesn’t wanna bring Kwazii into this complicated mess. Kwazii is aware that Calico Jack is hiding something and Natquik is apart of it, but not aware Barnacles knows anything.
I imagine Kwazii and Calico Jack were sailing in the Arctic when their ship crashed, Natquik was the one to find and help them. That was also when the two meet for the first time, practically love at first sight, at least for Calico Jack it was. It took some time but Natquik eventually fell for him too.
