1x01 vs 1x15. rewatch. I just wanted get into Abbot's character :)
the way they IMMEDIATELY present Robby as the "repress it!" type.
The way Dana sighs and her smile immediately disappears. Robby's reaction to the answer, too. Which means this has been going on for a while (obviously, since Jack has PTSD, but the viewer doesn't know that at this point), it's just sometimes it's getting worse.
Also, one thing that was really confusing for me the first time around, is how they went with the scene "Where's Abbot?" "Getting some air." "Reeally?" and then show Collins retching in the toilet, and Dana was like:
and I thought Dana had lied to Robby to protect Collins feeling sick. I though Collins was Abbot. :) the chain of thoughts felt logical at the time, even though I now now that's not the case at all.
"The stethoscope was his suicide letter." (upd: I like the contrast of Abbot wearing his stethoscope and Robby isn't) and you can clearly see how Jack WAS getting some air. He (probably) wouldn't have jumped. "Whats the reason to come back" and overall a very "I need to ground myself" moment.
While Robby... Robby bowed to his ED, left the stethoscope on the railing, and he probably WOULD have jumped if Jack didn't show up. At the very least, Robby was seeeriously considering it because look at how lost he is and how he looks around the city, how you can see the thinking behind:
The way Robby tries to blink away tears and hide it all even though he's literally on the roof. What gets me is how Jack puts hands on his hips and sighs, THEN Robby kind of gets this second wave of shame for Jack finding him this way, and probably for contemplating the idea. Those are all such powerful moments.
Back to 1x01: I love how Robby even HAS it in him to say "Good morning." and continue on the conversation, and look at the situation with fresh eyes?
Like, both Dana and Jack did NOT expect Robby there on the day of the anniversary and Robby REALLY shouldn't have been working that shift.
How Robby approaches this very lightheartedly? With jokes (and there's truth in every joke)? Because he had a huge break and is just getting back into this mess. How he makes Jack chuckle with that remark.
Like, Robby HAS it in him to say all that stuff (while in Robby's scene, it's "if you want bear, it will costs this much, they can deliver to the roof." Like, Jack is GENUINELY concerned and does NOT take it lightly. He's seen what Robby has been through, he's seen his reaction and desperation.) Morning Robby has no idea what's coming. He had some rest, even thought he barely healed and just buried his feelings deeper into himself.
Jack is battling tears there for a couple of seconds. Get them all into therapy. Jack into double therapy. Although maybe he's healthier than Robby at that point. Not sure, with his PTSD. They're both deeply damaged (hurt) people.
I love it when two old friends. Like, while it's very fresh (compared to Jack) and playful with Langdon ("You're my best resident, that's a big difference" while they're obviously close, it's back and forward between them), it's a heartbreak, almost romantic level of intimacy and betrayal, with Jack it's very "I know you, I love and respect you. You are my friend." Nothing less. Nothing more. And it's very steady because good long term friends are VERY difficult to come by, and these two were definitely through so much together.
I cannot express how much I love that and when you find people like that in your life, especially without making it romantic. "I just want to love and support you like one human can be there for another human" without wanting to fuck them or involving any kind of romance. "I don't need anything from you, just for you to be happy, healthy, and okay." People seriously underestimate friendship, both in fiction and real life.
And oh my god, I am SO in love with the fact that they filmed both 1x10 and 1x15 morning and evening scenes on the same day and before they even had a script? That's some really cool acting. I adore it.
Jack literally double checks if Robby is up for it. Should have gone homeeee.
The way they present Langdon, lmaoooo. Full of energy, bouncing off the walls, he rushes into field on view, ready to take on another day. Gods, I love this anxious, confident puppy (that gets mean when he's scared).
It has barely been what, 15-20 minutes into the shift? And Robby is already trying to get through it. Should. Not. Have. Been. Working. That. Shift.
While Jack explicitly says, "Talk me at the end of the day." and "You'll get there soon enough" it was a VERY different talk for Robby. Like, "I have to talk you out of jumping off this roof" kind of talk because he kind of skipped his existential crisis and went straight for "I'm killing myself." So, honestly, all things considered, Jack is doing great. I also love that he looks from Mel to Robby and back to Mel with this "really? seriously? for real??? wtf??" expression lol.
There's also that elevator scene where Jack tells Robby about the pregnant teen (dude saw she's past the point of abortion and still went with it, he and Robby are so alike. I like how it's framed that that kind of responsibility on attendings, how they both just decide to go for it with "girl deserves a life" kind of mentality), and where Jack gives Robby the letter for the vet's family that Robby then have to read. I could break it down, but I'm lazy and reached 30 pics in this post just like that.
The first time around, the entire Jack scenes went over my head because I was so confused bc of Collins scenes? Idk. That's why I'm rewatching it now. I like how all those little details come into play later in the season.
I'm so glad Jack, apparently, has also some (more or less) significant role in s2? I'm really really interested to see more of his character.
