[RR0 #1/???] Canada Draft #1 | Nationwight Nationwight concept for reference;
Trickster spirits who are attached to the concepts of nations by the hip. Supernatural, sometimes appearing to be animals or simple humans. They are only immortal as long as their nation survives, and they draw power from all it does. They will trick, alter, impersonate or murder to get their way; albeit they prefer to remain unseen by human eye, especially adults or the particularly wary. They typically observe from afar, but will interfere with matters if such is necessary; typically through supernatural means, but occasionally directly through great violence or deception. Appears perfectly humanoid from afar, but their forms may have animal or mythical features up close.
They typically stay within their own territory bounds, but will come together for meetings in a designated spot deep in the Canadian wilderness. Close allies visit eachother or exchange gifts. Maintaining their countries is largely a method of survival, as they do not often participate in society. But, that does not mean they do not identify with it. βββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
Proof of concept. Nationwight is a working title. Alternatively, Countryfae, but thatβs a little stupid. Since I am about to turn 18 in about two weeks, it is about time I begin a more serious country personification variant for me to use. Complex Countries, originally named Concept Countries, was made to be simple, but usable country personification. It was sort of a project I planned to do while I worked up my skills to create something more impressive in the future. The name Concept Countries was the one I used for like 6 years, because they were not supposed to be permanent! But, I liked them so much I gave them a proper title. I started it when I was 9 or 10 and knew I didn't have the skill level necessary to do country art in the way I really wanted to. I kind of think I still don't have the skills necessary, but I am.. mostly satisfied enough to begin proper concept work. I was gonna wait until RR4 was finished, but I am getting older. I want to start getting my first design drafts out.
It takes me several years to land on designs I am fully comfortable with, but I am hoping to speed up the process to some degree. If anyone has ideas, suggestions, or is otherwise willing to provide assistance, my messages and asks are very open. This is gonna be rough.
Before you mentioned you were from Canada in a more recent post, I was STILL guessing where you might be from, and I kid you not it was a tie between British and American, this is still frying me
Now that I know, history question, for how long has your Canada existed? And who are they historically? While I was reading about it, I had the impression "Canada" was more of a title given to some provinces over the name of a proper place, which created a bit of a gap in my head, what is your interpretation?
Canadian nationally, British almost 100% ethnically. So, itβs not off.
When it comes to country personification, my views on particular subsets of it rarely change. For example, I'm not one for splitting up OR combining countries when I don't have to. In this circumstance, I view Canada as an entity to have come into existence when Canada, the colony, was properly established. Some may choose to go further back to include native groups into this personification, but I do not think those would count under the same entity and I do not want to group them together, especially considering both distant and recent historical events. So, for Canadaβs age, it would be about 400+. Obviously, there is nuance here - I usually do not count countries as βfullβ personifications until its really made a name for itself. Once a reputation is out there, I consider it to be a fully formed personification. Before then, itβs sort of an invisible ghostly thing.
This goes both for Complex Countries and Nationwight, because I share the same general philosophy between both of them. When it comes to Nationwight in particular, the addition of them being on Earth does complicate things. So, I imagine younger countries to be a bit more reckless in their behaviour; allowing for more sightings of them to be known.
COUNTRYFAIRIES LETS GOOOOO
I'm very interested in how you intend to tackle the way a nation wight interferes in their land's affairs
It got me curious, do they all live in their sacred spots in the middle of the wilderness as fairies do, or do some of them have civilian identities to keep a closer eye in their land?
And do all of them agree to meet in the middle of Canada? Or is it restrained to a specific group of nation wights? I would assume this wouldn't have a consensus, and that they'd likely take turns hosting the meetings
One more thing!! about meetings, would they organize fairy parties like in the legends? where they dance and sing and have a pool party
Unfortunately because of my currently lack of designs I don't think I can make any doodles for these quite yet, but I can answer with what concepts I do have so far. I intend for nationwight to be shapeshifting trickster spirits with a touch of local mythology where applicable. As such, they could impersonate or hide as much as they please. Though, I imagine they prefer only to do this when necessary, or... if its just really entertaining for them.
They probably do a mix of both wilderness-living and urban, but likely their real homes would be out in the wild where they are more in their element. They would likely have much more control over the natural environment than Complex Countries do, who mostly control government. Canada was just sort of an example; they probably swap meeting spots frequently. Really, just anywhere secluded would work. Less chance of discovery. (but, i will incorporate sabrina here somehow!)
Fairy parties absolutely. Without the restrictions and expectations Complex Countries have, they probably have much healthier relationships. Not being stuck together in the same building probably helps.
guess whos next | nationwight not a particularly difficult guess i imagine
