Mitski nothings about to happen to me
Kind of hideous but I was experimenting and havent drawn in like 3000 years
Only Needle Drops
Funny, unique (probably?) experience happened to me yesterday while I was on a three-and-a-half hour (realistically, four hour) flight home.
I had three full albums downloaded to play up in the air: Nothing's About to Happen to Me (2026) by Mitski, Punisher (2020) by Phoebe Bridgers, and Imaginal Disk (2024) by Magdalena Bay.
I wanted to both listen to my music and watch Project Hail Mary (2026) because I hadn't yet gotten around to doing it and I saw they offered it on the flight. I was debating which to do and then the person to my left in the row in front of me put it on. With closed captioning.
I was silently screaming inside but I managed to put my headphones on and booted up Files to play NATHTM while I peeped at the lady's screen. The view was great: eavesdropping on her movie with the comfort of my very own soundtrack.
So NATHTM finishes thirty minutes in and something happens, let's just say, and I transition to Punisher. Forty minutes later, that's done, and we move to Imaginal Disk as another plot segment wraps up. The next segment wraps up and it's back to NATHTM.
The movie finishes to the tune of "Lightning" and the credits roll to "When I die / When I die / Could I come back as the rain? / See the world again, to fall again? // If I'm dark, all the better / To reflect the moonlight / If I mourn, all the better / To behold the sunrise."
So...that was a fun experience!
I rate PHM 10/10 partially because of hot nerd Ryan Gosling, boss girl Eva Stratt, and cool astronomy stuff and I rate the "Unofficial PHM Soundtrack" 10/10 as well. It was startlingly good at matching the story beats, honestly.
I went on to joke that the movie had a surprising number of needle drops and I couldn't imagine how their licensing budget was so high when they needed to fulfill Ryan Gosling's contract.
mitski you are my hero
