It seems very doubtful that this remake had as much production issues as the 1968 classic starring Rex Harrison. While you could go on the internet and research how much of a fiasco the original was I suggest you go out and buy the book Pictures at a Revolution by Mark Harris. It covers the five Best PIcture nominees from the 1967 Oscars and the most fascinating moments occur when talking about Doctor Dolittle. It certainly does not put a good light on Mr. Harrison nor on the Academy because how much pleading had to occur to make it a Best Picture nominee.
As you can see I have very little, or nothing at all, to say about the remake. It’s just another film in a long line of Eddie Murphy films where it just isn’t funny. Too many obvious animal jokes and puns to put you to sleep. What this needed was some backstage antics like say, Eddie Murphy going on a drunken rampage and saying this film is going to be shit. You know: family entertainment.
