SOMETHING  WAS  GOING  WRONG .  this  should  not  happen ,  not  yet .  early  abort  of  beloved  mission ,  of  everything  woman  had  prepared  herself  half  of  her  life  let  frustration  rise  in  her  stomach ,  twisting  it  until  bitter  taste  lingered  on  her  tongue .  IT  WAS  OUT  OF  QUESTION  that  safety  came  first ,  that  they  all  ached  to  return  to  the  planet  they  had  been  born  onto  and  yet .  this  would  not  be  an  easy  get  away .  sun  erased  from  bright  sky  as  quick  as  storm  arose ,  darkness  surrounding  small  crew  of  scientists  and  made  it  almost  impossible  to  see  properly .  BREATHE .  don  not  waste  precious  oxygen  with  allowing  fear  to  take  control  over  your  mind .  GO  ON .  do  not  let  heavy  winds  blur  your  sight ,  as  safety  is  within  reach .  ONLY  A  FEW  MORE  STEPS  in  heavy  boots ,  ground  creaking  beneath  their  feet .  ❛   we  are  almost  there .  ❜  ,  she  hears  re  echoing  in  her  helmet  before  movement  was  made  impossible .  WHAT  ON  MARS  ?  ?  doe  eyes  trying  to  find  the  source ,  when  wire  pulled  small  body  back .  SHOCK ,  gasp  for  air  as  the  world  around  her  turned  upside  down  (  adherence  lost  ) .   a  sharp  pain  when  spine  hit  the  ground ,  deafening  noise  as  systems  of  high  tech  suit  seemed  to  be  on  high  alert .  ❛   i  can ‘ t  move  !  !  ❜   a  finding  and  damnation  at  once .  THEY  COULD  NOT  WAIT  FOR  HER .  heart  starting  to  race ,  pulse  increasing .  GET  UP  OUR  YOU  WILL  DIE .  get  up  or  the  place  of  your  dreams  will  become  your  grave .

          The astronaut and the black ops CIA agent.  It was like a bad start to an even worse joke.  But, by some miracle Jensen managed to find something healthy, stable, and steady with a man whose system he hacked in to.  Not the greatest start to something healthy and stable.  Still, here he was.  Walking up to a door he’d managed to look at on more than one occasion.  A dirty, khaki green duffle hefted over one shoulder.  

         Bruises covered his legs from some cover he had to take.  There was a split in not only his lip but over his left eye.  Whatever scratches he’d acquired along the way were already starting to heal.  A month they’d been separated.  Thirty days of the most excruciating pain he’d felt in a very long time.  It didn’t even hurt this bad to say goodbye to his sister when he went off to the army.  Although, part of Jensen expected the place to be empty.  Chris wouldn’t be on the other side with that glowing smile because he’d found someone else.  A month was a long time to ask someone to wait.  Especially for a dumbass like him.

          There’s a fraction of a second when the world goes black.  One minute his knuckles are raised and ready to hammer on the wooden door.  The next he’s blinking up at the bright blue sky with the warmth of concrete beneath his back.  Coughing, Jensen can’t help but laugh.  A weight presses down on his chest that’s almost as warm as the surface he’s laying on.  Heartbeats hammer in his chest like the muscle is about to spin wildly out of control.  Electricity dances along his skin.  Jensen gasps without being able to control his body’s reactions.

          It honestly felt weird to be so attached to someone he’d barely spent any physical time with.  They talked a lot, sure.  But Jensen had been constantly afraid that meeting up in real life would make everything stop.  Plus, Chris was a doctor with like five hundred degrees.  Extra smart stuff.  He, on the other hand, only had a degree because he’d gone to college while he was still in the army.  Everything they’d recruited him for had been self taught.  And, sure, the military had taught him more in the areas they wanted to use him for but there was certainly no fancy schmancy calligraphy decorated degree to back it up.

          Whatever their differences were and no matter how much Jensen thought Beck deserved to be sitting in the passenger’s seat of someone else’s car, here they were.  Moonlight radiated overhead, lighting the way to the two lane highway he felt like they’d been stuck on for ages now.  Jensen’s hand was resting comfortably on Beck’s thigh with his thumb drawing idle circles to help calm his nerves.

          “ I shoulda taken that right a few miles back, “ he mumbled to himself.  Great first impression, J.  Great.

           With the scare on the station the agent had been a little too attached to the dear doctor since he’d made it back on to the ground.  He could even hear Pooch in his head calling him a mother hen.  Once he’d retorted that it was closer to a mother bear but that didn’t make the image any better so, Jensen had huffed and walked away.  What started as a harmless exercise turned into something Jensen never, ever dreamed of.  Part of him knew he’d lose it all when it came time to answer what he did for a living.  What he really did.  Chris was a healer.  A helper.  While Jensen was...very not.  In his short lifespan he’d racked up a considerable kill count.  What was worse was the lack of remorse he felt for a good chunk of it.  But, as Clay once pointed out, if they started letting that weight on their shoulders mean something they’d only suffocate themselves.

            Compartmentalization.  Woo.

           Letting off the gas, Jensen looks over his shoulder as if it would help him make a decision on where they’re going.  He has to- reluctantly- let go of Chris’s thigh long enough to poke the glass on his phone a few times.  The navigation app shines back at him indicating that they’ve arrived at their destination.  “ Siri, it’s a dead end.  Play Despocito. “

           It wasn’t all bad.  At least he was finally able to spend some real life time with his handsome astronaut.  Even better was the handsome astronaut wanted to spend time with him.  Despite all the bad jokes and the awkward timing, Chris was sitting in the passenger seat.

           Sitting in a small cafe near the Singapore coastline for what felt like the seventh day in a row had Jensen serious enough that he put on his Ash Ketchum baseball cap.  Backwards and all.  Before him was his trusty laptop.  Not the rig he used for work purposes but his personal tiger that came out to play when he wanted to be real serious.  Roque had poked at his honor.  Roque dared to insinuate that Jensen, of all people, couldn’t hack into NASA.

           “ I’ll do you one better, tough guy. “  He’d hack the space station and interview one of those astronauts on the Mars landing mission they were working on.  From what he’d seen on the news they were all pretty cute.  Getting any one of them to say ‘ hi ‘ back would make his day.  In more ways than one.

           Being told that he couldn’t do had always prompted Jensen to do that very thing.  If for any other reason to know whether or not he could actually do it.  He’d been underestimated so many times in his life that he needed to prove to himself that he could do something.  Sometimes he wondered if it had more to do with rejection.   But that was a whole psychological road he never wanted to go down.

                     N E V E R.

          There’s a loud, thunderous clad.  “ HA!  Take that you son of a bitch, “ Jensen’s bright smile reflects back at him from his personal coding.  Lines of Python shining like he’d just found a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.  Since this was space lives he was messing with, Jensen didn’t want to do anything that would endanger anyone.  Something simple.  Something harmless.  So, he did the first thing he could think of.

         He started sending messages.

                 Five dates. He had been on five dates with Doctor Chirs Beck. Odd, really, for he’s never made it past the first date with most. The two linger awkwardly outside Ashley’s shop, his apartment right before. Beck had never seen where Ashley lived, only leaving him with a hug outside the doors of the shop. Tonight, though, Ashley had different plans. 

                 A kiss.

                Five dates warranted such, did they not ?? Fingers intertwine with Beck’s, and he leans away from the hug, shaking his head. Fingers wrap around the handle of the door and he pushes back into it, pulling Beck inside. “ I um, please excuse my forwardness. What I wish to do tonight should not be done on the streets. ”

           “ I...wait, what? “  Hale jumps up from the seat he’d been directed to.  Blood stained white t-shirt discarded promptly after the doctor started looking over the several bullets lodged into his chest.  The details of how exactly said bullets ended up in his flesh were sarcastically glossed over.  

                                      Mainly by stating he’d walked into them.

             Part of his dismay was that the word ‘ wolf ‘ actually slipped past his lips.  Seconds later he’s still not sure why he’d lowered his walls enough to let that tidbit go and he was gearing up to play it off but the disbelief in Chris’s tone was almost offensive.  OFFENSIVE.
