𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐍𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐄 . johnhadn’t actually screamed thistime , so that was good . sometimes , john screamed himself awake , & those were the nights that sherlockfelt most sorry for him . he hadn’t been sleeping tonight , aswas the case with most nights , merely laying on the sofa with hishands steepled beneath his chin . he’d heard the bed squeaking from upstairs , so either john was making the first ofhis two ( sometimesthree ) trips to the loofor the night , or he had another war nightmare & was coming downstairs in order to geta few minutes of reprieve from thedarkness of his bedroom . sure enough , john’s footsteps were heard upon thestairs mere moments later , so the latter guess had beencorrect . the detective had kept his eyesshut , justout of respect of privacy , listening to the tracks that john’sfootsteps made around the area of the flat . the kitchen , to put on the kettle , most likely . then back to the sitting room , there’s the squeak as he sits down in his armchair ———— the sound of john’s voice isunexpected . usually , he doesn’t talk . usually , but things must have been close to badtonight , not bad enough that he refused to saya single word , but bad enough that he had the need tospeak . sherlockopens his eyes at last , turning his head on the throw pillowso he could peer over in john’s direction . the sitting room iswashed in the warm glow of a singularlamp in the corner , & as such , john isn’t entirely visible . but , just enough . “ it isn’t an easy subject to speak of , john . but , would speaking about it give you somesemblance of comfort ? ”
