As a kid who grew up outside the city, watching Durarara was such an experience. Something about the way Narita writes perfectly captures the feeling of trying to adapt to a new and strange world, and slowly becoming familiar with it.

Presenting my performance at the Longcon 2024 cosplay lip sync battle last weekend, as Relic von Waldstein from the light novel series Vamp! by Ryohgo Narita! Thank you to blackfirerei (IG) for recording the video 👏✨

I first read Vamp! on my semester abroad in 2018 (when I had a lot of free time for reading) and decided to cosplay Relic when I got back. IIRC I got the idea for this performance shortly afterwards when I heard this song in a Zumba class or something 🤣 Nevertheless, this past weekend was my first time cosplaying Relic in about six years! About half of this performance was improvised, but a few of the choreography beats I did have are ones I've been hanging onto the whole time I've had this idea, so I gotta admit it was pretty satisfying to see them come together 🙌✨️

You can say a lot about Narita's naming conventions for American/European/Ambigious characters like Jacuzzi Splot, Nice Holystone or Yellow Bridgestone (although for Yellow it is 100% established to be a fake name), the funny part is that he does the same thing with his Japanese characters. Yellow's brother is called Ishibashi Aiji which just translates to "Stonebridge Indigo". Nobody can read the Orihara siblings' names and they keep pointing out in-universe how weird their names are. Truly iconic.

Kasuka/Ruri/Rudi (I have written Rudi go with them to Ikebukuro, I should write a follow-up)

Sylvie/Aiji (I had been turning this around in my head for a while, but I should reread Vamp and maybe the 2000 arcs of Baccano for this)

once Otsuberu is finished translating I really need to write something about them because gosh they captivate me.

same as above once I have more info about what happens in it, I wanna write an in-universe video essay about the Etsusa Bridge construction, based on info in EB and Otsuberu, maybe a Defunctland-style video
