St.ranger Th.ings is on and I am reminded @nancyrw exists and I am warm and happy
@nancyrw said “you don’t find it miraculous that two people like us forged any kind of bond?”’
miraculous was certainly high up on the list of words that you’d use to describe it. although, it was still something that remained stunning to you. despite the reality of it all, the trials that had near forced you to closer in this capacity, despite it all - you were still amazed. how long ago had it been that nancy was simply the girl in the school hallway that you passed by? the one that had seemed more focused on steve, despite the bond that your younger siblings had held. was this all miraculous, indeed it was. miraculous that you could be sitting here, with her, in the front seat of your car.
“ i didn’t say that i didn’t, did i? ” cheeks flushed, the burn. your hands rest on steering wheel, gaze locked forward despite the fact that your vehicle remained with gear shift in the parked position. two people like us. two people like us. the words play loop in your brain, like a cassette tape that begged to be unravelled. quiet boy, you, yourself - were often unravelled. often tattered and worn. people like you. war torn and filled with a rage for a common enemy. ( would she have granted you a second look had it not been for this? no. you are meant for the shadows. )
gaze shifts, eyes set on studying her face, inhaling sharply. you owed her more than casual silence, more than casual answers. nancy wheeler deserved more than what anyone could give, you knew this. she had lost too much already - but hadn’t you as well?
“ it’s a goddamn miracle, nancy. can i ask a question? ” hesitant. speak even though your voice shakes.
“ would we still be sitting here if none of this happened? ”
it was so easy to revel in darkness when spending your entire life cloaked in shadow , invisible , forgettable , that’s what hawkin’s high school had proved to him . OF COURSE , HE PREFERRED THE ISOLATION . allowed him to do whatever he wanted , whenever he wanted , and nobody would flutter an eyelash . nobody would look twice . when people’s cats and dogs started to go missing , nobody would ever have suspected that their blood was on his hands . now , his horizons had been expanded , the real game was about to start . the house was empty ---------- APART FROM NANCY . he occupied a little spot in the backgarden , some trees as his cover , but he could just about see her through one of the large windows of the household . as inconvenient as the mobile telephone was to carry around , IT WAS NECESSARY .
when he dials he can just about hear the phone ringing from inside the home . echoes , it does , through a crack in the window . he would call , and call , and call again until she picked up . he could spend every day being ignored by her , daily life just an inconvenience to his ulterior motives , but he would not be ignored now . ANTICIPATION WEIGHS HEAVY ON HIS LUNGS AS HE WAITS . he has , after all , already decided that if she doesn’t pick up , then she’s as good as dead . @nancyrw
