Why did George go to Nampara in season 5 episode 3? Writer Debbie Horsfield has stated that he did go there on purpose. He didn’t just wander over there by accident. Even though George is jealous of Ross’ status in society, he still knows deep down that Ross is a good man and would help him in his desparate time of need. I think he finds comfort in that idea, when he feels so alone and vulnerable in the world. He literally has no real friends and Ross was a quasi friend long ago. He is the closest contemporary he has. Ross has known him the longest, literally since childhood. George must feel relief in knowing there is someone he can go to in an emergency and know he will receive help. I wonder how that scene would have played out if Valentine wasn’t there. Would he have entered the house? Would he have been intimidated by the party guests and not entered? What if there was no party, just a quiet evening at home with just the Poldarks? Would they have taken him back to Trenwith? I would like to think they put him to bed after a hot meal and sent word to Trenwith that he was safe and staying the night.
