Nameri National Park is situated in the Sonitpur District of Assam, on the east lowe hills of Himalayas. The nearest village from Nameri National Park is about 9 km away. The park is near about 35 km away from the main Tezpur district. On October 17, 1978 this park was announced as a reserve forest area. Again this park was established on September 18, 1985 as a part of the Naduar Forest Reserve, with the area of 137 km² as the Nameri Sanctuary. The North side of the Nameri National Park is associated with Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary, which is situated in Arunachal Pradesh. Therefore the total area of these two is over 1000 km². From this 1000 km², 200 km² is the total area of the Nameri National Park. In the year of 1999-2000 Nameri is announced as the second Tiger Reserve Sanctuary. Nameri National park is also recognize as an elephant reserve area. Moreover, this park is ideal for bengal tiger, wild cat, different types of migratory birds, black bear, deer, hogs, giant squirrel etc.
