Name: Bati Tsogtsaikhan Location: Arlington, VA

1. Who are you? My name is Bati Tsogtsaikhan. Two years after my parents arrived in the United States, I left Mongolia at the age of 11 to live with them. That was when I saw my one-year-old brother for the first time. At the moment, I am a summer intern at NAKASEC in Annandale, Virginia. I am also studying finance at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.

2. What does community mean to you? To me, a community is a powerful alliance of people who fight for a common cause. As a community, people can protect one another from unfair treatment and unite to better society as a whole.

3. A quote I live by: “One fool can ask more questions than ten wise men can answer.” -Mongolian proverb

4. You might be surprised to find out that I: When I came to the United States, I skipped a year and started school in 7th grade. I have never been a 6th grader.

5. A person who changed my life: I am not Buddhist, but Buddha’s teachings have changed the way I look at life and treat others in a positive way.

It’s time for another spotlight on one of our summer youth bloggers. Meet Isaac Yi! He’s been part of the KRC and NAKASEC family since 2010 and is currently interning at NAKASEC’s Los Angeles office.

1. Who are you? My name is Isaac Yi. I am a Korean American born and raised in Koreatown, Los Angeles. I am a student at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities studying Political Science. I am a deeply rooted Christian attending L.A. Open Door Presbyterian Church and the Korean Presbyterian Church of Minnesota when I am in school. I enjoy sports of ALL kinds, including basketball, tennis, and baseball. I also enjoy dancing. Though I haven’t had a chance to get back into it since high school, I don’t think I am done with dancing just yet. I am an introvert at heart but dream of being an extrovert.

2. Where are you?  I am working in NAKASEC’s L.A. office.

3. What are you doing? I am the campaign intern for NAKASEC, and I am very excited to be blogging with the other interns. Hopefully, I will inspire you readers to believe that nothing is impossible and that you should pursue your passions in life.

5. You might be surprised to find out that:  One of my greatest childhood friends is Korean-pop singer Megan Lee. I am incredibly happy for her because she just debuted as a singer in Korea. It stills amazes me how hard she worked over the past decade to get to where she is now. Everyone who reads this should support her and listen to her song, “8dayz.”

Get ready, everyone! NAKASEC is gearing up for another round of youth blogs for the summer of 2014. Every Thursday, our youth bloggers will be posting their thoughts on what’s happening in the news, at work, in their lives, across the globe…everything!

1. Who are you? Hello readers! I am Jung Bin Cho, and I am currently entering my second year of college. I would have to say that my first year of community college was easy. The luxury of attending a community college gave me a lot of time to work two part-time jobs while maintaining a 3.8 GPA.

2. Where are you? I have been living in Virginia since I arrive to the U.S. from Korea 13 years ago.

3. What are you doing? Currently, I am interning at NAKASEC while also working part-time at Home Depot. I am saving up money so that I can attend Virginia Tech for the fall semester.

4. A quote I live by: “Life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it.” –Charles Swindoll

5. What do you want people to know about you? I love food, football, and family. I eat food but after an hour I get hungry. Football is my favorite sport. And the struggles of my family continue to motivate me in life.

#ImmigrantMothersDay: From Mom, To Mom 

Are you an immigrant mother?

Are you the son or daughter of an immigrant mother? 

On Saturday, May 10, 2014, we are organizing Immigrant Mother's Day to honor the hard work and sacrifices of all mothers. They provide America's children with a life of opportunity and do all that they can to keep their families together.

The time is now to show our elected leaders just how much our immigrant mothers have contributed to this nation and to share their wish to be reunited with their families. We urge Congress to give us a vote on immigration reform that does not separate a mother from her child.

Join us for our #ImmigrantMothersDay: From Mom, To Mom photo campaign that will celebrate immigrant mothers and highlight the need for immigration reform.

On May 10, we will send a message to Speaker Boehner (@SpeakerBoehner) by tweeting or posting your photos to facebook and tumblr.

From Mom:

AAPI Call to Action on Immigration Reform

This past Tuesday, March 25, Congresswoman Judy Chu and leaders of the Fast for Families campaign participated in a Google Hangout to urge the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community to take action and get involved with the immigration reform movement. 

Fast for Families is a coalition of faith, labor, and civil rights leaders working with impacted communities to stand with families by calling attention to the moral crisis of family separation due to our broken immigration system. 

The AAPI community has been actively working on numerous activities to stand with families and move immigration reform forward.

Pledge to a Wednesday Fast:

Fasting for one meal a day or a full day on Wednesdays during the season of Lent is one piece of the movement to urge House leadership to move forward on humane immigration reform this year. It is not too late to sign on to fast! To join, please sign on here: F4F Wednesday Fast!
