#nacho post

All of the asks I’ve received here have been pretty innocent and generally non-issues, but I wanted to go ahead and say this now so it doesn’t become an issue later. Please do not send romantic asks to Mike, or anything with that general intent. Partly saying this because my version of him wouldn’t be receptive to that, but also because it puts me in an uncomfortable position to have to respond to. It’s just a little awkward and I’d strongly prefer people not do that.

I can understand being excited to talk to a character you like, and I know that some people like using things like this as a substitute for character A.I. because they’d rather support an actual writer, and that’s totally cool! But you do need to remember that when you message a blog like this, a human being is the one reading and replying on behalf of a character, so yes while your messages may be meant for Mike, my eyes are going to see them, and I’d appreciate it if people took that into account.

I’m not ok engaging with romantic messages, it puts me in a weird spot, I don’t want to entertain people in that way, I don’t care to be involved with someone else’s feelings like that, it just…idk makes me feel gross. It bothers me idk. (AU Mike’s aversion to romance is 100% self projection on my end, so the discomfort he feels is EXACTLY how this makes me feel.)

There are probably some people who would be totally fine responding to romantic messages in-character, but I personally am not one of those people, it lowkey unnerves me, so if you wanna profess your love to Michael Afton, maybe find a different Mike blog, because you won’t get that here. It makes me uncomfortable, and it would my version of him too, so you’re not going to get the reaction you probably wanted anyway. (He’s just going to look at you like: 😶)

This blog wasn’t really made for that purpose, but I’m almost positive there’d probably be someone else willing to answer romantic messages. If that’s what you want this blog just isn’t a good fit for you, so maybe go find another person’s blog to support/interact with! There’s plenty of Mikes floating around on here lol

I do hope this didn’t seem mean, that wasn’t my goal. I’m not out here trying to berate self shippers or anything, if you’re not doing anything wrong I couldn’t care less if you like a fictional character that way, it’s none of my business, the only way I care is if it personally affects me negatively, and in this case it would, so that’s the only reason I’m saying anything.

Luckily I haven’t really gotten any blatantly romantic asks before, and people have been rather chill, but I’ve had a few where the intent was unclear to me, and that prompted me to make sure I communicated my boundaries well.

I tried to establish the rules well beforehand, but being that I’m human and I’m fallible I did forget to account for some things, (I did state very firmly that inappropriate content is not allowed, but I failed to specify that all romantic messages were a breach of my boundaries) so I’ve update them a bit to clarify, but I’d recommend checking the rules every now and again for any updates or to make sure that asks comply with everything! 👍

I tried to word all of this cautiously because I recognize that the intent behind this would be mostly harmless, and I didn’t want to make a huge deal of it. Especially because like I said, I haven’t gotten any blatantly romantic asks. But I knew it’d be best to say something now before it got that point. I can’t fault people too much for crossing boundaries if they aren’t stated, so that’s why I’m making sure I clearly communicate my feelings beforehand, that way it won’t be a problem. Anywho I think that about covers what I wanted to say.
