Lebanese wine night! I’ve long been a Chateau Musar fan, so I was excited to taste the wines from Massaya, which is also located in Lebanon’s Beqaa Valley. . Fortunately, we have a great Lebanese restaurant in Dallas named Open Sesame, so I opened the wines there and had a proper Lebanese feast! . Ramzi Ghosn, Massaya’s co-owner and winemaker graciously provided the 2015 Cap Est and 2014 Terrasses de Baalbeck for me to enjoy. . Cap Est is 50-50 blend of Grenache and Mourvedre. These grapes come from an area that is very inhospitable for the vines, which results in extremely low yields. However, these resilient vines produce a surprisingly elegant wine. Cap Est opened more quickly and was the early front-runner. . The Terrasses is 40% Grenache and equal parts Syrah and Mourvedre. This wine was more tannic and took longer to open up, but after about an hour this wine eclipsed the Cap Est and blossomed into a very intriguing wine! In my view, it had a bit more complexity and a slightly savage edge which I attribute to the Syrah. . Both wines showed varietal character, restrained use of oak and had plenty of acidity. For those who have not tried Lebanese wines, these wines were somewhat reminiscent of Southern Rhône wines. They also offer compelling value. . It was tapas night at Open Sesame, so we ordered the entire tapas menu to start! The wines paired perfectly with the onslaught of dishes that followed. . . . . #nabidh #vin #vino #vinho #vinotinto #vinho🍷 #lebanesewine #lebanesewineries #massaya #beqaa #bekaa #bekaavalley #grenache #syrah #mourvedre #winetasting #winereview #lebaneserestaurant #dallaswine #sommlife #wset #wineanddine #redwine #chateaumusar #lebanon🇱🇧 #lebanonspotlights #lebanonmania #lebanonfood #lebanoninstagram #foodiewinelover (at Open Sesame Lebanese Grill) https://www.instagram.com/p/B83452YnlcA/?igshid=1k499fg1lzos8
